Hello lovelies! It's your favourite tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back with another installment of #TutuTuesday! This week, we're whisking ourselves back to 1997, a time when the world was buzzing with the Spice Girls and the internet was just a fledgling thing (can you imagine?!). Oh, and a little gem called "Titanic" graced the big screens, a cinematic masterpiece with enough sequins to make even me blush!

Speaking of sequins… where were we on this momentous date, the 1st of July, 1997? Well, my darling darlings, imagine the bright lights of London's West End twinkling around us. This was a period where the Royal Opera House was flourishing, captivating audiences with legendary ballets like "Swan Lake" and "Giselle".

But let's take a trip down memory lane – the late 1990s… the tutu styles were simply magnificent. It was a time when tutus were long, dramatic, and twirled with the grace of a swirling waltz. Think voluminous layers, delicate netting, and shimmering embellishments – truly a dream for any ballerina! The classic pointe shoe reigned supreme, with its sleek design and sharp silhouette.

You wouldn't be caught dead wearing a tutu in everyday life back then (although… I think the occasional pink one might just spark a trend). But you could catch me sneaking a peek at the grand tulle gowns and flowing skirts at ballet performances – oh, those dreamy outfits! Remember, in the 90s, it was all about creating a fairytale atmosphere.

On a side note, let's have a moment for the gorgeous costumes, eh? 1997 was the year that the Royal Ballet premiered its lavish "The Sleeping Beauty" production. The intricate costumes were just divine, and we have to mention Darcey Bussell, the reigning ballerina queen, and her incredible performance in this very ballet. Now that's some serious tutu inspiration!

I must confess, shopping was also a joy back then. A trip to London, my darling darlings, meant visiting Harrods or Liberty and getting my fashion fix. I mean, where else would you find those glamorous accessories, sparkly headbands, and shimmering fabrics to create the perfect tutu ensemble?

Now, I don't mean to brag, but my time-travelling adventures require a certain style (who wouldn't want to wear a fabulous tutu while seeing history unfold? Honestly!). My recent ventures have led me to a fascinating discovery about tutus – drum roll please – their incredible evolution! They've transitioned from humble practice gear to breathtaking masterpieces. Think shimmering layers of tulle, elaborate designs, and an unparalleled femininity. I wouldn't be surprised if they became everyday wear soon enough!

But darling, don't worry if you're a tutu enthusiast living in the present day. We can still celebrate the rich history of this beloved dancewear! I do hope, after all, that my dear Derbyshire neighbours, are getting those pink tutus out to match me! Don't forget to check out my next #TutuTuesday blog post – we'll be exploring the glorious world of ballet and its intricate costumes! And let me know, my little dancing darlings, what era you'd love to visit next!

Until next Tuesday, keep twirling in your tutus! 💖

Emma xx
