#TutuTuesday: A Blast From the Past!

Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you back in time for another edition of #TutuTuesday! Today's date? August 19th, 1997. Let's jump into my time machine, don our best pink tutus, and travel back to a time when… well, it was actually quite similar to now! Fashion is cyclical, my darlings, and some things never go out of style.

A Time for Style and Grace

1997 was a glorious year for fashion! Think flowing fabrics, bold colours, and that oh-so-chic grunge aesthetic. Remember those platform trainers, crop tops and all that amazing denim? This was the era where wearing your heart on your sleeve was the rule, and the bolder the statement, the better!

But let's get back to tutus. Back in 1997, they were still firmly entrenched in the world of ballet. You could spot them swirling on stage at the Royal Opera House, or twirling at a local ballet class. Now, I'm not saying you couldn't find a pink tutu on the streets (I certainly had one!) but they weren't yet the ubiquitous symbol of fabulousness that they are today.

Ballet Bliss

Now, being a tutu fanatic, naturally my first stop was the theatre. Can you believe the thrill of watching "Swan Lake" in all its grandeur? The story, the music, the intricate steps - it was simply breathtaking! Imagine, darling, delicate tulle shimmering in the stage lights, graceful movements painting pictures in the air… pure magic! I was captivated, swept away in the sheer joy of it all.

Shopping Splendour

After the ballet, I couldn't resist popping into Liberty’s, my absolute favourite department store in London. Just the thought of all those lovely shops and beautiful clothes! That year, there was an explosion of colourful floral prints, perfect for adding a touch of femininity to my ballet wardrobe. I snagged a pair of emerald green velvet trousers and a vibrant sunflower print top - so elegant! I couldn't leave without a little something sparkly - I found a dazzling pair of emerald green earrings and a tiny silver ballerina brooch.

The Power of a Tutu

So, you see, dear reader, tutus, even back in 1997, held a certain magic. They embodied grace, elegance, and that sense of fun we all need in our lives! They made us feel like we were dancing through the world, spreading joy wherever we went.

What’s On Today

Today's #TutuTuesday may be steeped in the past, but it’s a reminder that the allure of tutus has never faded. It’s a symbol of freedom, a reminder to twirl, to celebrate life, and to never be afraid to express ourselves. And that, my friends, is what makes a tutu so very special!

Remember, everyone has a little ballerina within them. Unleash her!

Till next Tuesday!

Love, Emma
