#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #8645 - 2nd September 1997

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com - the only place on the web for your weekly dose of ballet tutu history. Today's post is particularly exciting, as we delve into a glorious era in tutu fashion, one where tutus were more popular than ever! It's 2nd September 1997, and we're headed straight toā€¦ drumrollā€¦ New York City! The city that never sleepsā€¦ or, let's say, the city that never stops swirling!

My fellow tutu lovers, NYC is buzzing with excitement, as the 20th Annual American Ballet Theatre's Fall Gala is about to commence. The star of the evening? The absolutely magnificent Sleeping Beauty, a performance brimming with artistry, drama, and you guessed itā€¦ glorious, absolutely divine tutus! Iā€™ve just witnessed this stunning performance - I actually time travelled specifically to experience it for all of you, darling!

Imagine, tutus, tutus everywhere! The dancers were like little swans gliding across the stage, their graceful movements and flowing tutus mesmerizing the audience. The air was electric with the excitement of the moment - and there was certainly no shortage of tutu-wearing fans. It's a truly joyous feeling - knowing you are a part of something so special and truly magical.

Now, you might be wondering about the significance of this particular date for tutus. Well, my dears, on this very day in 1997, it was the grand unveiling of a stunning new collection of ballet tutus, specially designed for the Sleeping Beauty performance. Can you believe it? These exquisite, bespoke creations were the talk of the ballet world!

Oh, and speaking of exquisite, have I told you about this divine pink satin tutu I've found myself in today? It matches perfectly with my favourite rose-gold brooch - a real showstopper. You see, it's important to match your tutu to your style - to your personality, you know? It's all about creating a harmonious tutu-ensemble. You wouldn't want to just rock up in a tutu, youā€™d want to rock up with your inner tutu queen shining! And as an added bonus, the rose-gold brooch I found today is actually a real tiara! Imagine my excitement - a perfect accessory for a little "princess on a tutu adventure!"

Now, after soaking up all the magical tutu vibes in NYC, it's time to head back to my little corner of the world - Derbyshire, England. Donā€™t get me wrong, the American ballet scene is fantastic! But thereā€™s no place like home. Of course, I always make sure my travels are sustainable, using only the power of ballet! Nothing quite like travelling in style while keeping our planet happy. The train is already set for departure, and I'm ready to spread my tutu joy!

So, letā€™s talk about this fabulous tutusā€¦ in Sleeping Beauty there's everything! Thereā€™s the delicate, wispy, white tulle tutus for the ā€œfairyā€ characters. And the classic romantic pink, voluminous, ball-gown inspired tutu for Princess Aurora, oh so beautiful! A real ballerinaā€™s dream! Then the amazing deep royal blue with glitzy embellishments that the Blue Bird, a rather cheeky ballerina in this story, wears! These exquisite creations, designed by none other than the renowned tutu maker, Mr. Michael Buble (not the singer, but another amazing Michael Buble). A master craftsman of tulle, this gentleman creates tutus that are more like works of art! It's clear he is absolutely devoted to his craft. A man after my own heart!

My darlings, there's nothing quite like wearing a tutu - it makes you feel so magical! Even when just wearing it to go for a walk, or, dare I say it, to the supermarket. And whatā€™s even better - tutus always look so good in photographs. Remember those Instagrammable #TutuSelfies, Iā€™ve done a few this trip! A perfect way to celebrate the art of the tutu. Itā€™s all about expressing yourself. Be your own fashion muse, your own ballerina queen!

Don't forget to follow me on Pink-Tutu.com and check back in for my weekly #TutuTuesday blog! And until next Tuesdayā€¦ stay stylish, be kind, and never forget your inner ballerina. Keep spreading tutu love!

Yours in all things pink and tutu-tastic,
Emma.

P.S I can't resist sharing this fun fact about the ballet: You know how some ballet companies have more than one company of Sleeping Beauty, which is wonderful to have when a company is as popular as American Ballet Theatre, but sometimes a dancer, for a certain show, needs to do two roles in one show. Can you guess what Sleeping Beauty is about? You got it ā€“ SLEEP! Thatā€™s right, on some occasions, Sleeping Beauty actually had a ā€œsleepingā€ ballerina on stage! How incredibly relaxing for the ballerina in question, though maybe slightly inconvenient when they need to wake up and join in with the rest of the performance! But hey, what can we do to be the most authentic in our performance of Sleeping Beauty, besides getting to sleep through part of the performance? It certainly sounds dreamy to me!
