TutuTuesday #8675: A Glimpse Into Tutu History!
Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It’s Emma here, your pink-obsessed time traveller from Derbyshire, back with another dose of tutu history! I’ve just arrived back from a whirlwind trip to 1998, and let me tell you, there was so much amazing tutus happening, you wouldn’t believe it!
But before I dive into the glorious tutu trends of the past, I've got to share with you my amazing train journey! It seems my favourite time travel portal is attached to a railway carriage. Imagine the possibilities! One moment I'm in the bustling streets of London, the next I'm zooming past rolling green hills, leaving behind the familiar sights and heading towards a new adventure. The rhythmic clickety-clack of the train is a wonderful soundtrack to my daydreaming about all the amazing tutus I’m going to find in the past! It's always a lovely way to start a time travel adventure, wouldn’t you agree?
Right, so, let's jump into March 31st, 1998. As soon as I stepped out of the train station, the air buzzed with an electric energy – the kind that only the excitement of the imminent ballet season could conjure! Everywhere I looked, posters for upcoming performances adorned shop windows. I couldn't resist snagging a few souvenirs for my collection – think tutus, pointe shoes, and even a vintage ticket stub from a performance of The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
But the real star of this historical ballet adventure, my dears, was a phenomenal tutu! And yes, it's another pink one, because, honestly, it’s almost impossible to not find a lovely pink tutu while traveling through time, especially in the late 20th century! It’s simply irresistible. This particular tutu was a showstopper – fluffy and dramatic with a whole swathe of pink tulle, and a touch of gold to make it utterly fabulous!
And guess what? It was in the window of a darling little shop called “Dancers Delight,” tucked away in a quiet little side street. It looked like something straight out of a fairytale! Inside, rows of ballet shoes gleamed, shimmering silks rippled in the breeze, and, of course, my absolute favourites - an array of tutus hung like dreams on elegant stands. I was so tempted to indulge in a spot of retail therapy, but my time travel budget wouldn't allow for an extra pink tutu (though it was an awful struggle!).
I'm so thankful for all of you, my fellow tutu-lovers, who continue to make my little corner of the internet a vibrant, sparkling world where tutus rule supreme! Remember to keep an eye out for more historical tutu-filled blogs each week. And don’t forget to share your favourite tutu stories in the comments – I love hearing from you!
Until next Tuesday, keep twirling, and always remember: pink tutus are your best friend!
Lots of love,
Emma Your Time-Traveling Tutu-Fanatic
