#TutuTuesday: A Blast From The Past! 🩰
Hello my lovely Tutu-istas! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where all things sparkly and twirly are celebrated. Today marks a very special #TutuTuesday - we're travelling back in time to September 15th, 1998!
**(Just imagine my excitement - I've been meaning to revisit this period for ages!))
Now, before we hop on the time-travelling train, let's gather our trusty tutus and grab a cup of Earl Grey (pinkies up, of course!). I know what you're thinking, "Emma, 1998? Wasn't that like, ages ago?!" But trust me, when it comes to fashion and tutus, history can be truly inspiring.
*(Besides, it's much easier travelling back to 1998 than the present! The chaos! The crowds! The lack of time to pick out the perfect outfit!) *
Anyway, back to the good old days. What was the world of tutus looking like back then? Well, let's just say the ballet world was a whirlwind of creativity. It was the height of contemporary ballet! A real revolution of dance - and we all know what happens when ballet gets creative: * tutus get even more imaginative and dazzling!*
Imagine a tutu made of sheer layers of delicate chiffon cascading to the floor, sparkling with beads and sequins. Think feathered headbands and bright floral appliqués – the more, the merrier, as they say! Oh, and can we please talk about the colour palette?! Imagine bold turquoise, luscious crimson, and even those delicious neon hues that were so popular back then! (The bolder, the better, right?!).
(Now, please don't get me wrong. The classic, elegant tutu is timeless, but when it comes to my favourite eras for tutus, 1998 certainly takes the cake.)
Speaking of cake, what a fabulous birthday this would be! We can celebrate the birth of one of the greatest and most successful film composers of our time - Hans Zimmer, born on this very date! He's known for the dramatic scores for so many fantastic films. You probably know him for films like Gladiator or The Lion King. Did you know, though, he also did the sound design for some really fabulous animated series?! You may remember the work he did on The Prince of Egypt. It was quite the epic soundtrack with powerful storytelling. I wouldn't be surprised if that musical became a ballet show one day! (And I will be first in line for tickets, needless to say!)
Oh! And on this date in 1998, did you know that a fabulous fashion trend began? The baguette bag was all the rage! Now, I am, of course, thinking of the delightful Chloé Paddington which made everyone completely lose their minds!* A small, rectangular handbag in luscious caramel brown leather. So elegant! (And wouldn't a tutu in that colour be to die for?!)**
It is interesting how trends from back then make their way back into fashion - and there is one more you might want to know about that's so fabulous! The iconic Dior Saddle bag was unveiled in this year. If you can believe it! Imagine: 1998, Dior, a little tiny saddle bag and sooo many possibilities for coordinating tutus!
So, as you can see, 1998 was truly a golden era for tutu fans. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to explore the past!
* (And no doubt I will come back with an even bigger wardrobe of fabulous vintage tutus than I already have!) *
(Just kidding! I'm already shopping the internet and preparing for my next visit to that fabulous vintage clothing shop in London).
**(By the way, have you seen the tutus at this boutique?! I simply must show you my latest find!)
Until next week, my darling Tutu-istas! Keep dancing, keep sparkling, and most importantly, keep your tutus close!
With love and twirls, Emma
