#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Trip Back to 2001! 🩰💕

Hello, my darlings! Emma here, back for another #TutuTuesday journey through time, taking us to the year 2001. This week, we're exploring the glorious history of tutus, those iconic dance garments that make every dancer's heart flutter with joy. I'm dressed in my finest pink tulle number, feeling ever so sparkly and ready to share some fashion history with you!

Oh, what a journey this week is! Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to ride the train back in time to 2001. Now, you might be wondering what's so special about this date? Well, darlings, July 3rd, 2001 saw one of the biggest milestones in fashion history - a magnificent and glamorous fashion show celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Parisian fashion house of Lanvin. It's hard to believe this iconic house has been bringing the world exquisite fashion for a whole century, and to be back in time, celebrating the amazing history of this label would be such a joy. Can you imagine the grandeur of such a celebration, with fabulous tulle gowns and stylish creations sweeping across the stage, in the heart of Paris, the city of romance and fashion! Just divine!

Oh, the tutus, how I adore them! But before we go on, I wanted to thank everyone who came to my performance at the Birmingham Royal Ballet last weekend. Seeing all the excited faces in the audience, all decked out in tutus, pink tutus of course, was so inspiring! Thank you all so much!

Anyway, back to our trip to 2001. What else was happening that day? In the world of entertainment, one of my favorite singers, the beautiful and talented Madonna, was topping the US music charts with her single "What It Feels Like for a Girl," a powerful feminist anthem that resonated with women all over the world.

But our focus today, as always, is tutus, and in 2001, there were some amazing new developments in the world of ballet and tutu design. This was the year, darling, when the famous Moscow Ballet brought their spectacular “Swan Lake” performance to the American shores, mesmerizing audiences across the US with the grandeur of the story and the stunning beauty of the dancers, clad in ethereal, almost fairytale, tutus.

Now, I can’t go on a journey to the past, without bringing some amazing and fashionable memories to the present. How could I miss on my favorite part of any trip to the past? You guessed it right! SHOPPING!

The most exciting discovery I made on my little trip to the past, in 2001, was finding the most stunning shop in London’s West End, “Tututique”! It was a little treasure trove of all things tutu! They had everything, from classic ballet tutus, to colourful party tutus in bright turquoise and fuschia pink and everything in between. The shop even had tutus made out of materials like lace, velvet, and silk. The perfect touch of feminine glam, wouldn’t you say? Oh, the sheer delight of browsing through racks upon racks of dazzling tutus!

It was amazing to experience the excitement of shopping back in the early 2000s. But, my dears, that was just a little taste of the tutu magic we experienced on our little time travel trip to 2001.

So, next time you see a dancer twirling in a beautiful tutu on stage, take a moment to appreciate its rich history. This delicate and whimsical garment has been enchanting us for centuries, captivating hearts and inspiring countless artists. Let's remember, ladies and gentlemen, that a tutu isn’t just a dance garment; it’s a symbol of grace, beauty, and artistic expression. And who knows, maybe someday you'll even see me dancing in a gorgeous pink tutu on a stage near you.

See you next Tuesday for another #TutuTuesday journey! And remember, darlings, always wear pink. 🎀💖

Oh, and don't forget to check out my website at www.pink-tutu.com. I'm adding more tutus, ballet history posts, and dance tips every week. See you there!

Until next time! 🩰
