Hello my dearest tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your very own time-travelling pink tutu-wearing blogger, back again for another dazzling #TutuTuesday! Can you believe we've already reached Post 8855?!
I've been jet-setting all over the world this week, catching up on some seriously gorgeous ballet shows - a truly fabulous performance of Swan Lake in Vienna (so many feathers!) and a spellbinding Giselle in Berlin. But now I'm back in London, reliving my favourite moment of all... shopping for the perfect pink tutu! (Did I mention it's the colour of the season? 😉).
Twirling Back Through Time! 🕰️
This week, our Time-Travelling Tutu takes us back to 11th September 2001. It's a day that changed the world forever, and I know some of you might find it strange for me to be thinking about fashion, especially a fun little tutu, at a time like this. But for me, ballet and beauty have always been a source of solace and joy. In the midst of hardship, we can find strength in grace and hope in artistry. So, let's take a journey together, explore the history of tutus, and remember the powerful emotions that unite us.
What’s a Tutu?!
The tutu, my darlings, is a garment so magical that it makes every dancer look like a vision! It's basically a very short, fluffy skirt that can be made in a variety of shapes and sizes, and with loads of layers of tulle. But did you know that back in the 1830s, when ballerinas started to move more freely, their dresses needed a revamp!
In 1839, Maria Taglioni a legendary ballerina who became famous for her light-footed, airy leaps and turns, asked a costumer named Charles Worth, to create a costume that wouldn’t get in her way, and she helped to bring the tutu into being! You could even say that she “kicked off” a new style of dance – ballet romantique.
And guess what, dear friends? In 11th September 2001, the world of ballet was just as radiant as it was back in Taglioni's time. That day, at the Royal Opera House in London, ballerinas were enchanting audiences with the power and grace of classical dance. And there you have it, my loves. While the world might have been changing, ballet stayed true to its elegance and charm, always reminding us that beauty exists, even in the face of darkness.
Pink Tutus on the 11th of September: Celebrating our Strengths 💪
There’s nothing that makes a little pink tutu look even more charming, than the confidence and strength of the person wearing it. When you're rocking a pink tutu, you feel bold, daring and unafraid of who you are. That day, all the wonderful ballerinas, on that very special date, used their passion to bring joy and beauty to the world, and you can do that too, every single day. So what’s my message for you this Tuesday? Don't ever forget the magic within you, let your light shine brightly, and never be afraid to put on a tutu and dance your heart out! 💖
Off to my Next Adventure!
The whistle’s blowing and it’s time for me to board my train to a dazzling ballet extravaganza. It’s off to Milan for me, for a truly incredible showing of La Traviata – there’s going to be so much inspiration to inspire me, it’ll be fabulous!
As ever, I want to thank you all for your beautiful comments and incredible enthusiasm. Please leave me a message and let me know what you're thinking and where you are in the world – I love to see you guys sharing all your stories!
Until next #TutuTuesday, remember, always, always, dance with joy! 🩰
