#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post 8886
Hello my gorgeous Tutu Twirlers! It's Emma here, back with another fabulous edition of my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog, landing on your screens (and hopefully, inspiring you to don your finest tutu!), every single Tuesday from my very own, gloriously pink, www.pink-tutu.com website!
As usual, I've whisked myself back through time to a glorious era of fabulousness - today we're taking a little trip back to April 16th, 2002! Imagine: a time when the internet was a shiny new thing, Britney Spears ruled the charts and our mobile phones still had antennas! But what were the most important things happening on this fabulous day, I hear you ask? Well, darling, it was all about ballet, of course!
That's right, my dear tutu lovers! This very day, the American Ballet Theatre kicked off their "A Gala Celebration for American Ballet Theatre," right here in the heart of New York City at the Metropolitan Opera House. Imagine - a whole gala devoted to our beautiful ballet! Can you feel the thrill in the air?!
Oh, and another fun fact for your fashion diaries! Back in 2002, fashion was absolutely bursting with a bold new trend - the "Tutu Skirt" was everywhere. It's truly delightful to see how even those not directly connected to ballet could still appreciate the beautiful, feminine swirl of tulle. Let's be honest - there's simply nothing more feminine than a full-bodied, cascading tutu skirt. And let me tell you, even if the "tutu skirt" might have been a little bit more... "fashion" than a real ballerina tutu, there was a definitely a spark of the magic and the excitement that a real ballerina's tutu brings! And you just know that this kind of fashion-forward-thinking is what will always keep tutus in the spotlight.
And, of course, on a day dedicated to celebrating ballet, it would be simply unforgivable if I didn't have a smidge of a spectacular performance to share with you lovely lot. Just imagine: the legendary Rudolf Nureyev performing Giselle with Margot Fonteyn in 1962! Just try and hold back a tear or two while watching these legends dance together. The romance, the heartbreak, the utterly exquisite artistry - it simply never gets old. You can easily find these sorts of performances online, just like I did. It's like taking a time machine right back to the glorious, golden era of ballet! It's like seeing this kind of artistry up close, even if I'm stuck in my lovely little time travel hotel in Derbyshire, watching a video! Don't forget to tell me your favourite ballet pieces, darlings! Let's keep the chat about ballet everlasting!
Oh, and let's not forget the magic of going to the theatre itself. You know how much I adore those iconic opera houses - those high vaulted ceilings and those glittering chandeliers... simply magical! If you're like me and you can't bear to be apart from your beloved tutus for too long, I recommend venturing into the glorious world of Ballet Street! It's just so full of life and you can almost always find the best street performers there. Even if it's not an extravagant theatre performance, it's truly magical and I promise you it'll be a good time! You don't always need to have the grandeur of the Met Opera House - a simple street performer's passion can be just as heartwarming and joyful.
You see, the truly beautiful thing about a ballet tutu is that it transcends time and fashion, my loves. A tutu will always remain timeless, always evoking a sense of magic and grace. It reminds me that we, too, can be bold and courageous like our favourite ballerinas, taking graceful leaps towards achieving our dreams! Just try telling me you can't face your day without a little pep in your step and a twirl-worthy tulle tutu to help you out!
Well, I must dash off! I'm headed to see The Nutcracker at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (nothing too exciting for a Tuesday, is there?) And you can just bet I'll be wearing my best pink tutu for the occasion!
Until next Tuesday, stay gorgeous and never stop believing in the magical power of ballet!
Remember, my darlings - it's never too late to find your inner ballerina!
Much love,
Emma x
