#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post #8918 - November 26th, 2002
Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where tutus are the only fashion that matters! Today, we're taking a twirl back in time to November 26th, 2002, and trust me, it's a real whirlwind of a story!
First things first, let's set the scene. Imagine this: a crisp autumn day in…drumroll please…New York City! Yes, the Big Apple was the place to be for all things fashionable, and that included ballet tutus. Now, let's hop off the train and into the world of 2002.
A Tutus' Tale2002! A year where the world was still rocking out to Britney Spears' "Toxic," and we were obsessed with watching "American Idol." (And, okay, maybe still rocking out to some Britney…)
Fashion? Oh darling, the fashions were everything! From the sparkly sequins of Paris Hilton to the casual chic of a classic trench coat, we were obsessed with style! Of course, a splash of tutu never went amiss. You could see these gorgeous layers of tulle on stages all across New York and across the globe. Even though it's just an undergarment, it's all about that drama darling!
And, as the spotlight shined, it illuminated one of my all-time favourite ballet shows: The Nutcracker! This holiday classic was absolutely booming, both in New York City and London. The dancers looked sensational in their dreamy tutus and I, well, let's just say my heart did a little dance each time I saw them.
*Here's something to know about tutus! *Did you know that a standard "Classical" tutu came about thanks to the brilliant mind of a dancer, Marie Taglioni, who, get this, was born all the way back in 1804! This is how she redefined dance and gave ballerinas this revolutionary piece of apparel. So, yeah, imagine performing on a huge stage, millions of miles from your dressing room - a lot to do for such a seemingly simple undergarment!
My Favourite Things:So what else was exciting on the 26th of November, 2002, you ask? Well, darling, it just so happens to be my birthday! That's right, another year to spin, twirl and dance my way through the world of tutus. This day is always the highlight of the year and even more fun now that I'm living this time-traveling dream!
This week’s travel tip: Whether you're travelling by train or flying, don't forget to pack your ballet bag with a few key items! Ballet shoes, a light scarf, your favourite shade of lipstick…and a pair of beautiful tulle pink tights to match your favourite tutu of course!
Tutus For Everyone:Let's keep this conversation about tutus flowing! Leave a comment below about your favorite tutu styles, a special performance you attended, or just anything pink and fabulous! Remember: everyone can embrace the power of a tutu, from the stage to the street! It's all about expressing yourself and your love for dance!
Next week: Join me for #TutuTuesday! We’re leaping back to 2002. But shhh, we're visiting Paris… the ultimate fashion capital! Let’s grab a baguette, a hot chocolate and twirl into fashion history!
Have a fantastic week and keep dancing!
XOXO,
Emma
