Tutu Tuesday: #8958 - The Tutu Takes Flight!

Greetings, my lovely tutus! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, bringing you another delightful dose of ballet history for this week's #TutuTuesday! I've just travelled back to 2nd September 2003, and my oh my, the world is abuzz with excitement! The fashion scene is absolutely sparkling, darling!

Today, we're venturing back in time to a moment when the tutu was truly starting to take centre stage. Yes, this darling piece of clothing has been captivating hearts for centuries, but the early 2000s marked a moment of renaissance, a glorious bloom for the tutu's elegance and flair!

First things first, imagine stepping into a ballet studio today, back in 2003. There's this fabulous energy, an almost electric anticipation as the music fills the room. The sound of ballet in those days, oh my, it was absolutely captivating. We're talking classical masterpieces, soaring through the air like delicate butterflies, showcasing that timeless grace and precision.

The fashion is an absolute treat. Think soft layers of tulle, a sea of romantic and elegant tulle and satin. The colours? Oh, they were positively breathtaking! We were seeing all shades of heavenly pink, rich purples, and classic whites, creating a truly enchanting spectacle on stage.

Did I mention this is a very special date in history? This very Tuesday, 2nd September 2003, saw the launch of one of my favourite ever ballet-related magazines. "Dance International," a glorious publication dedicated to the beautiful art of dance and ballet, debuted in style! Now that was a momentous occasion, and you better believe I got my copy at the first available opportunity!

And darling, we're not just talking about tutus in the studio, no, no! In 2003, the tutu had infiltrated mainstream fashion! From high-end boutiques to vintage shops, everyone was channeling the ethereal grace of the ballerina. Think tulle skirts swishing in the wind, bold colour combinations, and of course, a touch of glitter and shine!

Speaking of glamour, a big theatrical production took centre stage on the 2nd of September 2003, a tour de force for anyone in the mood for some dazzling entertainment: 'My Fair Lady.'

Imagine that classic, enchanting story, with all its charm and wit, but enhanced with gorgeous, dazzling costumes. It was simply fabulous! Now, don't be thinking for a second that we saw an abundance of tutus on the stage, oh no! We are talking beautiful gowns and hats that brought the world of London society in the early 1900s to life. The fashion itself was a work of art. It was simply unforgettable.

Of course, travelling through time by the power of ballet is thirsty work! So, after all that excitement, it was off to the nearest Parisian café. A steaming cup of coffee and a flaky pastry was a must! I even found some lovely vintage finds to add to my collection – a beautiful ivory silk scarf and a vintage ballet shoe with tiny satin ribbons.

Did you know, the fashion scene of the 2000s saw a fantastic revival in interest in ballerina flats? These little shoes, often with a delicate ribbon or bow, were simply the perfect finishing touch for everything from floral dresses to tailored trousers. Talk about a trend that perfectly captured the tutu spirit – elegant, practical, and stylish.

Speaking of stylish, don't forget that tutus can be worn with anything, you know! Think playful and chic, a bold splash of pink in an otherwise understated ensemble! There are so many creative ways to incorporate this amazing piece of garment into your wardrobe!

Remember my lovely tutus, this is just a snippet of what a dazzling time 2003 was! So much has changed, and so much hasn’t! Our fascination with the tutu hasn't waned! And, for me, that's a good thing, very good indeed! I mean, it's practically my life’s purpose to make the tutu accessible and exciting for everyone. I aim to help create a world where tutus are a standard for all, on any day of the week, not just for ballet.

And that, my dearest tutus, is the end of our little jaunt! Don’t forget, to follow your own sparkly passion! Now, let’s continue this conversation on www.pink-tutu.com. Don't forget to send your questions and thoughts - I absolutely love hearing from you!

And remember: Don't just wear pink tutus, embrace them!

See you next week!

Lots of love and tutus,

Emma xx
