#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: The Twirling 2000s (Post #8975)
Hello my lovely tutufarians! It’s Emma, your resident tutu enthusiast, here from the land of tutus, Derbyshire, England! (Well, not exactly, I’m currently having an absolute blast in Paris, the ultimate ballet and fashion haven!) It's #TutuTuesday, which means we’re delving deep into the history of our beloved tutus. Today, we're focusing on the fabulous 2000s, a decade bursting with fabulousness – just like a perfectly puffed-out tutu!
I don't know about you, but I’m a total 2000s girl! That era felt electric with new ideas, pop music to dance to, and a healthy dose of sequins! It was all about being free-spirited, expressive, and daring to wear those tutus just a bit lower on the hip… I mean, who needs all those restrictions?!
And speaking of restrictions, who knew tutus had so much history? It’s one of those fascinating things, right? The costumes we wear for these wonderful stories, that make our lives just a little bit brighter.
So, today’s date? We're taking a look back at December 30th, 2003. (I know, crazy, it’s all so glamorous just to be writing the date like that! Just like that little note from Cinderella to Prince Charming! 😉)
On this day, way back when… well, my lovelies, December 30th 2003 saw the world still captivated by The Lord of the Rings! I just saw the whole thing with an absolutely breathtaking ballet interpretation at the Palais Garnier the other day. Imagine! And the costume for the ballets… just perfect, and of course the tutus – magnificent!
Speaking of captivating, can we just talk about how fantastic it is to wear tutus? A big YES! They add that extra dash of magic, and you don’t even need a fancy gala to feel magical – every day can be magical with the right outfit!
And what was happening in the world of fashion around 2003? I was so inspired, that year, that I went back to school for a few more classes… well, they were actually dressmaking classes in between ballet lessons of course. There I learned to tailor, and just make all sorts of clothes! I loved trying on those beautiful gowns and trying them all on… the silky dresses, and the lace ones… just like all the lovely girls in the school – there were lots of them!
2003 – well, I've still got my original design notes for my line – Emma’s Ballet Dream Collection, oh and there's my Pink-Tutu online store too… I actually travelled in time, from 2003 right back to the 1880s to help with my research on ballerina's clothes – it took me to Paris of course, because of course! Where else? What did I find out – well let me tell you about the romantic tutus - like the kind Marie Taglioni wore when she was dancing at the Paris Opera. Romantic… and of course… all white and so pretty – just imagine!
I know I have you dreaming with these amazing tutus - the best ones are a lovely, delightful and most wonderful pink – just perfect – and the tutus for ballerinas were always so lovely, weren’t they? It all just feels so magical… so I can’t help myself - and on December 30th 2003 that is exactly where I went… and, do you know… the first time I met my friend Emily? It all began with tutus! Imagine - I still wear those same pink tutus! And so many new ones too. Oh I could go on and on…
Well, my tutufarians, I have to dash! I have another wonderful Parisian fashion show to catch. Be sure to share your favourite tutu moments and photos in the comments! See you next Tuesday for another edition of #TutuTuesday – I can't wait to see where the tutu history takes us next. Don't forget, every day is tutu-day in your own life – let the magic of your dreams inspire you to create your own fairy tales.
Love,
Emma xx
