Tutu Tuesday #8998: A Trip Back to the Early 2000s!
Hiya darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where we celebrate all things pink and twirly! This week's #TutuTuesday is a special one because I'm taking us back in time! Grab your favourite pink tutu and join me on a journey to 8th June 2004, a magical year full of shimmering tulle and enchanting ballets.
This time travel lark isn't easy, you know. The travelling's stressful enough - I've been stuck in the carriages next to grumpy old fellas who keep forgetting to offer me their seat (the nerve!) - but then there's the whole wardrobe issue. Finding a matching pink tutu for each time period? You'd think it'd be simple, but believe me, the early 2000s were tricky!
Anyway, I've finally landed on this sunny June day and let me tell you, things were so different back then! Don't get me wrong, the passion for ballet was still burning brightly - you can't ever dim that, darling - but things were... well, a little more... understated. You'll never believe it but the ballet world back then didn't quite have the embrace for all things pink and frilly that we do today! Oh, the injustice!
Imagine, darling! The streets were barely peppered with the gorgeousness of a pink tutu, the boutiques were filled with bland, boring clothes, and even the ballet dancers themselves weren't as bold with their tutu choices. Oh dear, what a world to have lived in! But thankfully, things were changing, the winds of fashion were shifting towards the embrace of a good twirl.
Anyway, back to our time trip. I'm so excited because Iāve got some wonderful snippets of ballet history from the early 2000s that will blow your mind! Now, darling, what do you know about the legendary ballerina, Sylvie Guillem? Let's just say she's an icon, and she was absolutely slaying it on the stage at this very moment! And let's not forget Darcey Bussell - she was just as magical in 2004 as she is today! The dance world was abuzz with excitement - and who doesn't love a little buzz?
Now, let's delve into what made 8th June 2004 a date to remember. First off, a grand event took place: the 30th anniversary performance of The Royal Ballet's "The Sleeping Beauty." Can you imagine the magic? A ballet so timeless, celebrating its milestone with an array of grace, beauty, and incredible dancing. I bet those tutus were to die for! Speaking of tutus, imagine walking the streets of London, darling, and catching glimpses of the famous ballet dancers walking by! The excitement, the passion, and just the sheer joy radiating from their tutus... now thatās a vision, isnāt it?
There were other big things happening too, you know. On this very day, the āPhantom of the Operaā continued to reign supreme as one of the longest running musicals on Broadway. 18 years running! Think of the magic! Talk about captivating performances and magnificent sets - this musical was truly a spectacle to behold! Can't you imagine the pink tutus, darling? I think it would have added some glorious glitz and glam to the show!
But my dear darlings, we can't talk about 8th June 2004 without discussing the movie that took the world by storm, Shrek 2. Okay, you're probably thinking āEmma, what on earth does this have to do with tutus? Itās an animation film about a green ogre!" But hear me out! Remember, even Shrek himself has a little bit of love for pink! Remember the grand ballroom scene in the movie, with all those fancy-dressed princesses and fairytale creatures? Now that's a scene made for a little pink magic. You'll see, you just wait, you'll seeā¦ I just feel like Shrek 2 with its bold storytelling, memorable characters, and infectious humor, was all part of the early 2000sā journey toward a little bit of pink-tutu magic in our lives. And, even if it was subtle, pink-tutu magic was there - and a Shrek fan, who knows, maybe a tiny twirl too.
Darling, 2004 was a time of so many amazing milestones, not only for the ballet world but also for our fabulous world of tutus. Just think about it! Every year, we're stepping into a new era of pink tutu magic, embracing a whole new kind of wonder and grace!
I must tell you about my travels around the world. Did I mention I'd taken a train journey? From Derbyshire, I'd embarked on an adventure to London on the train. This is what I adore. Taking in the views and people and thinking how everything can just change and you can end up in a totally different place in no time. Then to New York, then across to San Francisco by plane and on to Australia and Japan! All the places tutus were popular. It's not a small thing.
So here's to a fabulous 8th June 2004! Now letās all go out there and sprinkle a bit of that pink tutu magic on the world. Youāll see darling, youāll see. Maybe, in time, we'll be seeing pink tutus worn every day! Now that would be a sight, wouldn't it?
Stay sparkly,
Emma
P.S. Don't forget to tell me about your favourite tutu memories from the early 2000s in the comments below. Let's make some ballet history together, darlings! And if you're ever in Derbyshire, look me up! We can go for a spin at the ballet studios.
