#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! 🩰

Hey lovelies! It’s Emma here, your resident tutu-loving time-traveler, and welcome back to another exciting #TutuTuesday.

This week we're waltzing back to March 22nd, 2005. Now, imagine the scene: the air is buzzing with spring anticipation, the sun's shining, and it's just the perfect day to whip out your favourite pink tutu!

But before we spin our way into that glorious day, let’s do a quick rewind, shall we? Today's post marks number 9039 in my epic journey of tutu history. And you know what? My mission to spread the joy of tutus across the globe is well and truly underway! Imagine, people wearing pink tutus all over the world – a vision of pure ballet bliss!

Oh, and by the way, if you haven't already, be sure to pop over to www.pink-tutu.com – it's a haven for all things tutu-tastic! I share all my latest adventures, fun tips on rocking the tutu, and I even host a weekly online tutu design competition! It's just so much fun, I promise.

Now, back to the year 2005. We're starting in dear ol' Derbyshire, England – my home! I’ve just caught a train into the city for a ballet class at my favourite studio – it's such a delightful way to get inspired for the day! You can just picture it: me, in a bright, fluffy, pink tutu, feeling so twirly and energetic as I travel on the train. (Of course, it always gets a few giggles and stares! It's just so much fun!).

And on this very day, in the year 2005, something incredibly exciting was happening... oh wait, it was a big secret! This little time-traveler was working on something very special – a new tutu design! The concept? A "Twirling Tiara Tutu". It would be so stylish, elegant, and, of course, in the most amazing shades of pink imaginable. (We’re talking peach, bubblegum, blush, raspberry - you name it!). I was convinced this would become the tutu to end all tutus!

So I headed back to the studio, a kaleidoscope of pink in my head. But before I could really dig into my design plans, the class started! We were working on a very challenging piece – the Sugar Plum Fairy variation from The Nutcracker! It’s an iconic and incredibly beautiful dance – all twirls and leaps, it’s quite simply exhilarating.

It’s on days like this that I really feel the magic of dance. We're all connected through our love for movement, beauty, and the sheer joy of expression. And of course, all of it looks so much more magical with the perfect pink tutu on!

Later that evening, I ventured out to a special ballet performance. It was “Giselle” – the drama, the heartbreak, the incredible ballet. And it really was incredibly special because my all-time favourite ballet dancer, the iconic Anna Pavlova, had performed it. Now, sadly, she wasn't on stage in 2005, she was dancing way back in 1908, but watching a recording of it, was like travelling back in time. It made my heart soar! She was just so incredibly graceful, all elegance, passion, and effortless beauty – a truly captivating performance.

That’s just what made me decide to have a little peek into Anna Pavlova’s history… You know, her personal collection, her tutu wardrobe, everything she was connected with! So that’s what I did, I slid through the shimmering portals of time… Oh, my, where to even start?!

First off, she had this gorgeous pink tutu… it wasn't fluffy like my modern ones, but it had these exquisite hand-stitched embellishments, delicate floral embroidery, it was a true piece of art. Imagine that being your daily uniform – truly a work of fashion history.

But Anna Pavlova was not only a phenomenal dancer, she was a pioneer! She travelled the world with her ballet company, she made ballet more accessible and celebrated across cultures and continents. It really made me think about my own mission - to get the whole world wearing pink tutus!

So, inspired by Anna, I hopped back to 2005. This time, I was heading to London – the centre of the fashion universe, and of course, a ballet lovers paradise! I wanted to get some inspiration from the latest fashion trends, the buzz around dance and music, anything to fuel my new “Twirling Tiara Tutu" design.

Of course, no trip to London would be complete without some fabulous window shopping! From Bond Street’s chic boutiques to Covent Garden's bohemian charm, London was just overflowing with fashion inspiration. You wouldn’t believe the stunning tulle creations! I even found a vintage shop with a hidden treasure: a perfectly preserved 19th century tutu – made of the most delicate silk, it felt like it was made of gossamer threads!

It’s incredible how fashion constantly evolves and re-invents itself! And even as we spin through different styles and trends, tutus always find their way back – from ballet to pop stars, even to streetwear! They just never lose their magical touch.

By the time evening rolled around, I was buzzing with excitement and ideas! I was ready to go back to my little studio and finally bring the “Twirling Tiara Tutu" to life. It was a busy day filled with ballet, time travel, fashion, and history. It’s amazing how the love of dancing and a passion for tutus can transport you on such exciting adventures!

Now, tell me, darling readers, have you ever tried a historical fashion adventure? I'd love to hear about your own journey in the world of fashion and tutus. Tell me everything - what is your favourite era for tutu fashion? Share your stories and your own #TutuTuesday adventures!

Stay pink and keep twirling!

Love,

Emma 💕
