Tutu Tuesday: #9045 - A Whirl Through Time!

Hello darlings! Emma here, back with you again on another beautiful #TutuTuesday! As you know, I absolutely adore everything about tutus – from their history to their style and everything in between. And you can always rely on me to bring a splash of pink to every occasion, right? 🩰💖

This week, my time-travelling adventure has brought me to Paris, a city I’ve simply got to confess – I love! Imagine it, darlings: The elegant boulevards, the exquisite fashion houses, and, of course, the magnificent ballet shows! Quelle joie! I always find such a warm welcome in Paris. The locals are incredibly charming and sophisticated – quite frankly, you could say they’re born with a tutu in their hearts! 💖

Today, however, we’re going back a little further, to the 3rd of May, 2005. On this date, I’m perched at a delightful Parisian cafe – the perfect setting for a good gossipy chat – sipping on a beautiful latte, while observing the Parisian style around me! You know how much I love spotting trends, darlings. The beautiful dresses, those incredible Parisian boots! Sighs dreamily

A Tale of Two Tutus

So, for my history blog this week, I’m talking about tutus! Now, you might be thinking "Emma, we all know about tutus! They're the ultimate dance garment!" And, well, yes, you’re absolutely right, but the tutu, darlings, has a fascinating history. It hasn't always been this fabulous.

When I say fascinating, I mean incredibly fascinating! As early as the 1500s, what we might call early tutus were used in theatrical dance, although they didn’t quite resemble what we see today. They were basically… a skirt! Nothing as dramatic or pretty. Shudders Imagine! Just a simple skirt! Oh, darling, the horror! Cringes

The first real tutu – and oh, what a beauty! – debuted around the middle of the 19th century. The famous dancer Marie Taglioni is credited with pioneering this new design, a true vision of tutu elegance – shorter, lighter and made of tulle – perfect for dancing and for exposing those fabulous legs! The stage was finally ready for the tutu to take its rightful place! 💃

This new kind of tutu was absolutely revolutionary. Gone was the cumbersome, weighty skirt – freedom for movement! And boy, did this movement inspire, too! I was so lucky to see a fantastic ballet performance based on “Giselle” here in Paris last night. A stunning mix of graceful choreography and beautiful tutus, a real treat for my soul, darling! 😍 It just goes to show that the power of tutus is timeless.

Ballet-Mania on the 3rd of May, 2005

I’m thrilled that on the 3rd of May, 2005, people in this lovely city were embracing the tutu. After all, nothing says “I’m a dance enthusiast” like wearing one of these gorgeous dance staples. I bet there were several lucky Parisian girls twirling through the streets – maybe at a school ballet show, or even just rocking a playful tutu as everyday wear! Who am I to judge?! As you all know, I love tutus always! 💗

In fact, darling, it's hard to say for sure what exactly did happen on the 3rd of May, 2005, here in Paris – my time travelling is a little imprecise! But you can bet that wherever I landed, it was somewhere steeped in ballet, with tutu dreams dancing on every breeze. 🩰

The wonderful thing is, with the magic of time travel, the power of ballet has the ability to bring a splash of pink and tutu-inspired style to every era. Let’s keep that dance spirit alive and celebrate the history of the tutu - from its humble beginnings to its spectacular evolution! 💖

#TutuGoals: Let’s Spread the Love

And of course, darling, it's always my favourite bit when I get to inspire all you wonderful people to get involved. Do you remember my Tutu Challenge? That’s still running! And what a joy to see so many beautiful tutus being worn!

Do you have any stories of your own, about tutus and history? I'd love to hear about it! Don’t be shy, leave me a comment. Until next week, darling, au revoir, and remember, never stop twirling! 💖

Emma xx
