#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - A Whirlwind of Whimsy (Post #9052)

Hello my darling tutu-loving lovelies! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! It's your favourite Tuesday and I'm back, just in time to take a trip through time with my #TutuTuesday history post.

I'm Emma, and, well, let's just say I have a passion for all things tutu. Pink is my absolute favourite colour, so it only seemed natural that a pink tutu would be my uniform. And what better way to travel the world and spread the joy of tutus than by popping back in time? This week, we're swirling around 21st June 2005, which feels like just yesterday (especially when I'm skipping around in this fab pink number!).

So grab a cuppa, put on some Rachmaninov, and let's take a peek at what's going on in the world of tutus back in 2005...

It's an absolutely stunning day, the kind where you feel like twirling through fields of wildflowers with the sun on your face. A perfect day to be dancing! Speaking of dancing, 2005 was an absolute treat for the balletomane in me!

First, we've got Darcey Bussell continuing her incredible run with the Royal Ballet, and just a few days ago on the 19th, she and the Royal Ballet premiered Frederick Ashton's "The Two Pigeons". Oh, how I wish I could have been there! It was a grand spectacle – beautifully staged with breathtaking costumes and breathtaking choreography. Ashton was a genius, and Darcey, as always, a star!

Speaking of breathtaking, the other huge ballet event in 2005 is the revival of the Diaghilev Ballets Russes! Remember how it revolutionised dance and brought the world’s attention to ballet back in the early 20th Century? Well, this reimagined company is captivating audiences everywhere, from London to New York. And my fellow tutu fanatics will be pleased to know that the revival featured a host of breathtaking costumes, each a tribute to the incredible design history of the original Ballets Russes.

I was especially smitten with Mikhail Fokine's "The Firebird" in this revival, with those amazing, flame-like, red costumes. They had the perfect balance of flow and structure. Honestly, I might have to commission a custom-made, pink "Firebird" tutu just for myself!

Back to present day for a moment - did you know that tutus are also having a moment in the fashion world? Yes, this little dance staple is finding its way onto the runway and street style! The latest trend is pairing a fluffy tulle skirt with a chunky sweater and ankle boots. It's a bit edgy, a bit glamorous and oh-so-much fun. I’m embracing this trend, naturally! And you can too, just pair your favourite tutu with a chunky knit or denim jacket, throw on some heels, and you're ready to take the world by storm!

Oh, and what's another absolute highlight of this day, 21st June 2005? Why, it’s Summer Solstice! The longest day of the year, just made for twirling and frolicking under the sunshine.

As always, you lovely lot know me - I'm on a mission to inspire everyone to wear a pink tutu. So, how about it? Put on a tutu, head to your local park, spin under the sunshine, and celebrate the day! Let's all have some fun and embrace the spirit of TutuTuesday! And remember, everyone looks fabulous in a pink tutu!

I'm going to go get myself a new pair of dancing shoes! My feet will be itching after reading about all this fantastic dancing. And remember, catch me here next week for another fab #TutuTuesday with a trip to a different era!
