Bonjour mes chéries! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-wearing time-traveller, and welcome to #TutuTuesday!
Today's journey takes us back to a fabulous summer in 2005, where my time-travelling adventures brought me to Paris, a city that is synonymous with style, beauty, and yes, ballet!
(Psst! Don’t forget, you can read all about my time travel adventures, wardrobe triumphs and my obsession with everything pink in my new book A Tutu Travels The World, available now at your favourite bookshop!)
A Whirlwind Of Tulle:
So, as we set our pink tutus twirling back in time, 2005 was a spectacular year for ballet! Let’s rewind the clock, darling.
12th July 2005, that's where we are headed, and wouldn’t you know it, Paris was brimming with fabulous ballet happenings!
The legendary Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris were, naturally, performing divine shows that captivated audiences. It was an extraordinary era for the company, with their artistry and captivating choreography simply breathtaking.
Can you picture the magical swoosh of tulle as the dancers pirouette and glide across the stage? It's pure ballet bliss!
As for the tutus, the iconic ballet garb, oh darling! The Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris dancers were gracing the stage with an array of tutus that were just divine - everything from exquisite classical tutus in dreamy pale pink and soft blush tones to dramatic black tutus that dazzled and enthralled.
But it wasn't just the grand ballet performances that made Paris such a tutu haven in 2005. You see, there was an absolute love for ballet everywhere! From ballet classes popping up like spring flowers, to chic ballet shops selling everything a budding ballerina could dream of.
Pink Is The New Black:
Speaking of ballet shops, darling, did you know that there's a trend emerging in 2005? Pink is back! It was like a beautiful blossoming across all things fabulous. And let me tell you, ballet shops in Paris were loving the pink, with beautiful ballet leotards and tutues in every shade of pink.
For me, this was a true fashion heaven. You see, I'm a huge fan of pink. I truly believe that the colour is for everyone, not just little girls! My mantra is, “ Let’s bring on the pink!”
Travel By Train - Of Course, On a Train:
And how do I journey to all these ballet wonderlands, you ask? Why, by train, of course! Trains, my darlings, are so much more elegant and romantic than flying. It allows me to soak in the scenery and lose myself in the rhythm of the journey.
(Tip from Emma: Don’t forget your ballet bag with your portable sewing kit for quick alterations – just in case your tutu needs a touch-up. The trains have notoriously cramped luggage compartments and I find that the smaller the better! Just sayin'…)
A Night At The Ballet
Back in Paris on 12th July 2005, I’d donned my perfectly pink tutu, sparkling pink shoes, and a glittery pink bag to see the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris performance that evening. It was pure enchantment! The story was exquisite, the music sublime, the costumes breathtaking – everything just divine.
Oh, darling, there was a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation in the air before the performance began! Everyone was getting dressed up and ready for a magical night out.
It was just divine to watch all those gorgeous ladies in their exquisite gowns, their hairstyles perfection – and oh darling, some of the sparkling diamonds and precious stones! – **They truly stole the show.
As the grand stage curtains rose and the orchestra swelled with musical majesty, I knew that I was in for a truly memorable ballet night.
My time travels took me on an extraordinary journey through time and fashion, with so much inspiration! Now, darling, go out there and find your perfect tutu, rock it with style, and let the magical world of ballet enchant you!
And remember, my darlings:
It’s never too late to put on your tutu and twirl into a world of imagination and magic.
Adieu for now, but stay fabulous, darling! Stay pink!
**Love,
Emma**
