Tutu Tuesday #9075: A Trip Back to 2005!

Hello darlings, and welcome to another exciting edition of my Tutu Tuesday blog! As usual, I'm going to be taking you on a little journey through the wonderful history of the tutu. This week, we're travelling all the way back to the 29th of November, 2005, for a blast from the recent past!

Remember, my lovelies, a well-chosen tutu can transform a look. Pink is, of course, my personal favourite, and a favourite of mine since I was little, but really, a tutu in any shade can turn a simple outfit into something magical, something fabulous, something… well, just plain tutu-ful!

Now, I'm a girl who loves a good time travelling adventure! So naturally, when the chance came up to hop into the time machine (don't ask, let's just say that certain special performances give me a little bit of extra... time-bending... magic) and whizz back to the early noughties, I jumped at the chance. What was happening in the world of the tutu in the late 2000s? Did tutus take on a whole new look in those fashion-forward times? Let's have a look!

Fashion-Forward and Feeling Fab!

So, 2005, huh? You know, when I think of the fashion back then, I think… Avril Lavigne. Black eyeliner, platform boots, maybe a little bit of a "punk rock princess" look. Now, I'm not saying tutus aren't compatible with the Avril Lavigne aesthetic, because, let's face it, everything is compatible with the right tutu!

But, my lovely lot, in 2005, the classic tutu was still very much the go-to. The romantic, floaty tutus with billowing layers of tulle were still what everyone loved, especially when it came to the ballet! We're talking long, flowing lines of sheer, pink, white, or black tulle.

And just think about it, darlings! There's such a versatility to a classic tutu! They looked stunning on stage in a classical performance of Swan Lake or Giselle. And, of course, they could still be pulled off by any of you fashionistas who wanted to add a little bit of ethereal grace to your everyday outfits!

And, even more fabulously, I found myself sitting at a London theatre performance of a brand new production of "The Nutcracker" in 2005. Oh, how the magic of ballet has such enduring power, even decades later! It's one of my favourite reasons for jumping into the time machine, seeing old shows, new productions and performances that never get old.

The ballet was bursting with so many tutus! The ballerinas were dancing in beautifully made tutus, a mix of both classic white and elegant pink and, you guessed it, I took the opportunity to indulge in some fabulous London shopping!

What was more fashionable in the noughties than the perfect tutu, my darling? It was all the rage! In fact, I could even say that 2005 marked a real high point in the history of the tutu. They were just about everywhere! From the catwalk, where they were often paired with simple black tops for an effortlessly chic look, to street style, where girls were styling tutus with everything from skinny jeans and t-shirts to sparkly evening wear.

In truth, 2005 really seemed like the year of the tutu, where the classic designs were absolutely flourishing and taking the fashion world by storm!

A Time Traveler’s Take

Now, don't get me wrong, lovelies, while those classics tutus have a special place in my heart, my inner fashionista loves to see the exciting and unique new takes on the tutu design that keep cropping up! The beauty of the tutu, like a true friend, is that it's so adaptable, it can go with anything!

Remember my little blog journey through history earlier? And remember how my mission is to have everyone wear pink tutus? Well, here in the early 2010s, there’s a special place in my heart for a very new type of tutu I spotted on a train in 2008, on my way back from a ballet performance, a design from the fashion world and one that is more reminiscent of fashion street style rather than a ballerina in a theater.

There I saw a girl from Derbyshire like me, but this time she wasn’t dressed for a ballet performance or for a fancy show in London’s West End. This girl from Derby was a ballerina dressed for a very modern, trendy fashion statement! I was on the way home to Derbyshire myself from a weekend ballet performance in Manchester. It had a much more modern and fashion-forward look, a more sophisticated look I might say. I can see it catching on! And why wouldn’t it? They’re perfectly pink! And you know, even more fantastically, it reminded me so much of all the stunning tutus I saw in 2005, yet it looked very much more modern.

They say fashion comes in cycles, darlings, and sometimes you see these amazing fashion developments take inspiration from the past! What a perfect mix of modern style, elegance, and, of course, the everlasting fabulousness of a tutu!

I’m off now to pick out the perfect outfit and hop on a train! Remember to check out www.pink-tutu.com for new posts every week, and leave your thoughts on the wonderful history of the tutu in the comments below! Don’t forget to use the #TutuTuesday hashtag to share your favourite tutu pics!
