#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post #9083 - 24th January 2006
Hello, my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where the world's best fashion statements begin and end with a swish of pink tulle. It's a beautiful Tuesday, and I'm practically bouncing with excitement because we're travelling back in time once again to uncover more ballet tutu secrets!
Today, my dears, we're hopping aboard the fashion express to January 24th, 2006. The air is crisp, the London skies are grey, but I'm rocking a shocking pink tutu that's practically illuminating the whole street (and no, darling, it's not just the sheer volume of my blush!).
Now, back in 2006, the world of ballet was abuzz with excitement! For me, personally, I was giddy with anticipation for the Royal Ballet season opening - I just knew they were going to put on a truly spectacular production of Giselle. Oh, the romance! The tragic ending! The breathtaking costumes! A girl could practically faint, couldn't she?
But speaking of those costumes... What exactly were tutus like in 2006? Well, darling, it was a time of both tradition and evolution in the tutu world. You still had your classic romantic tutus - layers upon layers of tulle that flowed like a ballerina's dreams. Remember "The Sleeping Beauty", with Aurora’s grand ball gown tutus, swirling with sparkling beauty? Ah, I’m dreaming about those now, as I write. *Such grace! Such opulence! *
But you know, in 2006, contemporary dance styles were starting to bloom, and with them, more daring and streamlined designs. Imagine those beautiful bodices, but now think about them combined with a streamlined silhouette, offering freedom and expression through movement! I’m sure some of those contemporary dancers weren't afraid to embrace even a little pink tulle here and there, as I see them do now. Modern and feminine? Sounds heavenly!
Speaking of heavenly... remember the sheer pink tulle Giselle herself wears? That’s how my mind is working these days: flowing, ethereal and divinely feminine. If there’s one piece of fabric that could take you to a whimsical fairyland, it’s the tulle!
You see, dear reader, 2006 was the year the world of ballet fashion started experimenting. Ballet dancers became real-life fairy godmothers of style, changing their costumes in a dazzling whirlwind of innovation! And guess who’s here to tell the tale?
Don’t worry, I’m not the only one obsessed with tutu history, because while I'm dreaming of those 2006 tutus and pondering over my next fabulous shopping spree, I’m also a total sucker for all things retro fashion. After all, this whole blog is dedicated to celebrating the tutu as a fashion statement, wouldn't you agree? *My love for pink tutus just knows no bounds. *
Oh, speaking of trends, a new style started taking centre stage in 2006 - The Street Tutu! Oh, the Street Tutu… A fabulous concoction of tutu elements like ribbons and bows, applied to our favourite street fashions! We had sparkly bags and pink accessories – the tutu style was becoming less theatrical, more mainstream and more about expressing one’s own fabulous personal style! A true ballet-inspired triumph! I even saw an incredible ballet performance last week that had its street-inspired touches.
As I continue my adventures through time, I’m also keeping an eye on the world of modern Ballet Couture. Today’s dance wear designers are not afraid to use materials like velvet, silk and satin alongside traditional tulle - they’re really giving tutus a luxurious edge that fits modern dance style. You should have seen the Russian Ballet designs at the London Coliseum the other day. Truly sensational, and even they used a little bit of pink! It’s true, darling, my favourite colour makes everything brighter.
For the rest of this lovely #TutuTuesday, I suggest a stroll around your local department store (but mind that tutu!) while daydreaming about the exciting possibilities that tulle has to offer. Then, I urge you to head to a ballet performance in full pink-tutu glory, even if you’re only watching from the front row!
Always remember, darlings: Embrace your inner ballerina, and let your love of tutus shine through in all aspects of your life. We’ll continue on this Pink-Tutu fashion journey next Tuesday – keep those pink feathers poised, and see you there!
