#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post #9091 - 21st March 2006
Hello my gorgeous darlings! π©°β¨ It's Tuesday again, and you know what that means! Time for another delve into the wondrous world of ballet tutus!
I'm so excited to be here in Paris this week, the fashion capital of the world, just buzzing with chicness and flair. Oh, the shops! I simply have to go see what Chanel is doing with tutus this season, I'm just dying to know. π π»
Today, we're stepping back in time - a whole 140 years, actually! Let's take a peek at what tutu styles were all the rage in 1866β¦
The Romanticism Era: Imagine fluttering ribbons, layers of tulle, and graceful lines - all designed to emphasize the light and airy quality of ballet at the time.
Imagine dancing in a swirling cloud of pale pink tulle, with ribbons trailing like a summer breeze - oh the romanticism! π
But, there's more! We wouldn't be true tutu enthusiasts if we didn't explore the intricacies! You see, those graceful tulle skirts weren't always as airy as they looked. Early tutus could be incredibly heavy and cumbersome, sometimes even layered over boned corsets! (Honestly, can you even imagine!) π€―
Let's fast forward a littleβ¦
By the late 1800s, things got a lot more exciting with the arrival of the tutu "paquita." Shorter and lighter, these tutus embraced movement and fluidity - allowing ballerinas to leap, turn and spin with a grace that was truly breathtaking! β¨
Imagine twirling and spinning with a perfectly balanced paquita tutu, feeling like a little ballerina fairyβ¦ It's like dancing on air! π§π»ββοΈ
Don't forget the colours!
As time passed, the range of colours used for tutus started to expand too! We're not talking the plain white of the past! They became vibrant, captivating, and reflected the era's sense of artistry and elegance.
But, naturally, there's nothing more captivating than the delicate charm of a pink tutu! π A true masterpiece of ballet history. Just a little secret... Itβs no surprise I have a weakness for all things pink! π
I simply adore history!
Discovering the origins of our favourite tutus and how they've evolved over time makes us appreciate them even more, right? I'm just so glad that we get to embrace these graceful pieces of history through our love of ballet! π
A little peek at what's happening on 21st March 2006...
Paris is simply breathtaking! The city is awash with colour, spring is in the air, and the Eiffel Tower is glowing a vibrant orange as I write this post! And speaking of Paris, this date holds a special place in ballet history! It's the birthday of a true icon, Marie Taglioni - a ballet dancer who made her name in the romantic period with her graceful style. Talk about legendary! π
Later, I'll be attending a stunning performance of 'The Sleeping Beauty', so Iβll be sure to take some snaps for you all! We need to remember the past to inspire the future.
Now, a call to action!
How about we show the world how much we love our ballet history by sporting our very own pink tutus this week? You don't have to be a dancer, just a fellow tutu enthusiast! Tag me in your photos! π©° And please, share your favourite tutu moments from history in the comments below. I can't wait to see!
