#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Ballet Tutu History! (Post 9105)

Hello my darling dance devotees! Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the past with my trusty pink tutu and my travel-worn ballet shoes. It's #TutuTuesday and this week we're twirling back to June 27th, 2006 - a glorious year where tutus were practically bursting out of the seams!

Where in the world are we?

This time, my dears, we've landed in New York City. It’s a city that buzzes with a passion for all things theatrical, a true paradise for tutu-loving souls! I must say, the ballet scene here is simply electric. The air crackles with energy and excitement - something I definitely associate with the sheer joy of a sparkling, tulle-filled tutu!

So, what happened on June 27th, 2006, in the tutu world?

Well, let's start with the grand dame of ballet - the American Ballet Theatre (ABT). It was their season finale, a glorious gala performance celebrating their 75th anniversary. There was an abundance of talent on the stage, and I’m sure the entire city was humming with the magic of those tutus! This kind of event truly embodies why the tutu is so timeless; it allows ballerinas to soar above the stage, their artistry shining through the intricate design. It's quite magical, really.

From The Royal Opera House to the Big Apple!

Now, remember, the 27th was a Tuesday. And for this little ballet fanatic, that can only mean one thing: it was time for some "Ballet Class" on the Lower East Side, followed by a delightful dinner at Katz's Delicatessen for some much-needed post-plie sustenance! This is just one of the many charms of being a ballerina; not only do we dance, but we also savour life’s simple pleasures. I do love me a good sandwich with a pickle on the side, darling!

* A Spot of Shopping!*

Of course, what is a trip to New York City without a visit to Bloomingdale's? This beautiful department store, with its gleaming chandeliers and stylish atmosphere, is a veritable haven for my love of all things fashion, and, of course, ballet-related items. I simply had to check out their latest collection of dancewear – their vibrant colours and quality fabric really stole my heart! Who knew 2006 had such lovely styles?

Fashion Inspirations for your Tutus

Now, I’m sure some of you are already thinking about ways to wear a tutu. And you know what, I love it! The beauty of this magnificent garment is that it’s so versatile! It can be dressed up or down, from a fancy performance to a casual picnic in the park. Just like those amazing designers at Bloomingdale's, you can be creative! Don't be afraid to add a splash of pink or a sassy print; tutus are begging for a bit of personality.

On the Importance of Colour

And that brings me to my next point. Pink, darling, is the best colour in the world! It's feminine, joyful and perfectly complements a beautiful tutu. The sheer delight a perfectly pink tutu evokes! Think of the beautiful hues that paint the sky at dusk, think of those delectable macarons, think of a blooming cherry blossom in spring - all these wondrous images radiate the glorious shade of pink. And a well-chosen pink can truly enhance a tutu's beauty!

A Farewell From Derbyshire

I must say, this trip down memory lane has left me filled with pure joy! Seeing the ballet scene of 2006 – vibrant, innovative, and absolutely radiating with talent – is simply inspiring. And it just goes to show that even though fashion and dance constantly evolve, a beautiful, twirling tutu is timeless, isn’t it?

Until next Tuesday, my darling tutu-enthusiasts, stay bright, stay happy, and keep twirling!

Your ever-pink and eternally inspired,

Emma.

P.S. Did you know I was born in Derbyshire, England? Just a little nugget of information! And if you’d like to join me for a fabulous performance this weekend at The Royal Opera House in London, be sure to book your tickets now!
