#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Glimpse Back in Time! (Post #9153)
Hiya lovelies! Welcome back to another #TutuTuesday, my weekly dose of all things ballet and, of course, my beloved tutus! This week we're taking a little trip back in time, right to the year 2007.
Fancy a ride on my trusty time-traveling train? This week, my favourite, emerald green carriage, "The Sugarplum," is taking us all the way back to a magical year, when I was still a young thing. I was twirling my way through Derbyshire, soaking up every ballet performance and every fabulous shopping experience I could find.
And oh my, where did the time go?! Honestly, it seems like only yesterday I was excitedly putting the finishing touches on this week's post. I just adore the history of ballet tutus and this week I thought we could take a peek back to the 2007 fashion scene, back when pink tutus were, dare I say it, almost mainstream! Can you believe it?! 😉
Now, while the tutu has always held a special place in the hearts of those of us who adore ballet, in 2007, tutus were starting to see a surge in popularity.
Oh, and the amazing thing about that year, the one that made my pink-tutu-loving heart sing, was that my ballet performances were becoming the perfect funding source for my exciting time-traveling escapades! It wasn’t just about the thrill of dancing, although the stage did feel like the most magical place in the world. It was also the incredible opportunity it gave me to experience fashion from eras gone by, and gather all those stunning historical details for my #TutuTuesday blog.
As we sit down in "The Sugarplum," nestled in velvet seats, imagine if I told you the highlight of May 29th, 2007, for me, was a visit to the ballet shop, just before I saw a delightful ballet show in the local theatre in the centre of Matlock, where I grew up. (Let’s face it, even today, ballet is still my weakness!) Imagine me: a young, bubbly girl in her very own blush-pink tutu, wandering amongst the silk and sequins, eyes sparkling with the thrill of a hundred possible stage costumes! I was literally living the tutu dream, darling.
Now, before we take a little glimpse back into the fabulous world of 2007 fashion, let’s imagine, darling, for a moment. You know, sometimes we all wish we could live a different life, try on a different outfit, experience something that feels magical and enchanting…Well, darling, you can step into my little pink tutu and twirl back to 2007 right along with me!
A Glimpse into the World of Tutudom: 2007I’ve got to admit, in the world of 2007, ballet was really starting to become super popular. Maybe you’ve already heard the name ballet blanc? Now, it was like, a big thing back then. They'd show those super sleek and classy costumes at ballet performances in dazzling lights and, oh darling, it was just enchanting.
But don't think tutus only belonged in the theatre in those days. Ballet was also spilling out onto the streets, influencing all sorts of everyday fashion. It wasn’t a crazy fashion moment yet – just the kind of thing that had everyone on their toes, you know? Think simple, classic designs with a dash of tulle or just the faintest hint of a puff, giving everyone the grace and style of a dancer – but without having to go all-out stage performance, if that’s your style. (Don’t worry, you'll always find me twirling away in my pink tutus!).
On that 29th of May 2007, tutus were making appearances in everything, darling! Designers were experimenting with those beautiful fluffy tutus, adding just a hint of their delicate magic to skirts, even making tulle a regular feature on evening gowns! Can you imagine, tulle gowns – that’s just pure, exquisite tutu magic!
If you ever watched a ballet back then, my darlings, you would have been truly treated to a spectacle of incredible tutus and gorgeous designs. You’ll still see some of these amazing classics at a theatre performance today, darling, but back in 2007, we were just beginning to experience the evolution of ballet and tutudom, together! And let me tell you, it was like the start of a fairytale, one filled with fashion, artistry, and a dash of pixie dust!
As we all know, my darling, my biggest ambition in life is for the world to wear pink tutus every single day! I just can't get enough of their elegant femininity and grace. A pink tutu is the best way to sprinkle some joy and fun onto an otherwise ordinary day! Maybe in 2007, it didn’t quite reach that point (although we came awfully close!) - but every journey, every experience, gets us closer, darling! It is definitely something we should aim for!
My Top Fashion Tips for Bringing Your Inner Ballerina to the ForefrontNow, I can’t have you twirling through time with me without picking up a few of my all-time, fabulous tips:
Channel your inner ballerina and embrace the colour pink, darling! There is something simply magical about wearing a pink tutu, whether it be a classic full-length one for an elegant look or a shorter tutu for a bit more sass. There’s even a beautiful, slightly faded pink vintage tutu that's waiting for me in 1960’s London. (Just a sneak peek for all of you fashionistas - we're gonna take a journey there, very, very soon!)
Accessorise! Pair that lovely pink tutu with a touch of jewellery for a truly unforgettable outfit. A dainty necklace, sparkly earrings, or a cute hairband, will make any outfit more stylish.
Dare to twirl! Don’t be afraid to show off those incredible twirls that’ll make heads turn! Always remember that confidence is key, my darling, and no matter how much you twirl, you’re always going to look like a fairytale ballerina!
Well, my dears, our train journey to 2007 is drawing to a close. I hope you enjoyed our glimpse back in time.
See you next Tuesday for more #TutuTuesday fun. Until then, keep those pink tutus twirling! I have a lovely pair of bright pink ballet pumps to match.
Remember, my darlings:
- "If you can dream it, you can do it!" - And there's nothing that's stopping you from wearing a pink tutu!
Love, Emma. x
