#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time! (Post #9211)
Hello my gorgeous ballet bunnies! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another #TutuTuesday post from the depths of time! This week we're twirling back to the 8th July 2008, and oh my, the excitement was palpable!
Picture it: London. The streets are alive with the vibrant pulse of the summer. People are enjoying the long days and sunshine. And right at the centre of it all, the London Olympic Games are just a few months away. The air buzzed with anticipation.
So what was the biggest fashion trend of the moment? You guessed it: Tutus! Yes, darling, tutus were having a moment in the spotlight. It's so much fun to see that people in the past embraced the sheer magic of tutus just like we do!
Remember those sleek, black ballet leotards with little poofy skirts that we all adored in the late 80s and 90s? Well, in 2008 those same designs, inspired by our beloved ballet tutus, were being spotted everywhere. From high street fashion to celebrity appearances, it felt like everyone was wanting a touch of that elegant, feminine flair that tutus possess.
As I made my way to Covent Garden for the evening ballet, I just couldn't help but marvel at the sea of tutus floating around me! There were tutus in every imaginable colour – pinks, blacks, blues, yellows - making me feel a wee bit like a walking kaleidoscope of elegance.
I popped into my favourite little shop in the Covent Garden Market. Now, you must know that I'm a total sucker for a gorgeous hat, especially a wide-brimmed hat. Well, there it was, the most beautiful straw hat in a delicious shade of peach! You simply wouldn't believe the amazing plume on it - I'm certain the peacocks in Kensington Gardens were jealous! I simply HAD to have it!
On to the theatre we went! Tonight, a splendid ballet performance by the Royal Ballet. The excitement was buzzing around me. People were dressed to the nines; everyone was looking chic and fashionable. There were stunning ball gowns, sharp suits, and ... you guessed it... beautiful ballet tutus in every shape and size!
What a truly magical experience. As the dancers gracefully danced to Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, a shiver of joy coursed down my spine.
Remember darlings, tutus are so much more than just a simple piece of clothing; they're a symbol of art, of beauty, of joy, of imagination and freedom. And we need more freedom and beauty in this crazy world.
Now I am off to explore this exciting timeline - London has so much to offer!
