#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History on 2008-07-22

Hiya lovelies! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-clad time traveller, back with another dose of #TutuTuesday! Today we're diving into the dazzling history of our beloved ballet tutus!

Now, hold onto your tiaras, because I've got a story that'll spin you right round like a ballerina in a triple pirouette! It's 22nd July 2008, and believe me, the world's a little bit brighter when you're in a tutu, especially in the glorious pink one I've picked out for today's adventures!

Fancy a quick trip down memory lane with me, lovelies? Buckle up your tap shoes, grab your biggest smile, and let's go!

Let's rewind the clock a bit! Back in the 1500s, tutus weren't even a twinkle in a ballet dancer's eye! They were all about grand courtly gowns, layered, lavish, and so voluminous you'd practically need a team of helpers to manoeuvre around!

Fast forward a few centuries and enter the glorious Age of Enlightenment. Suddenly, a new form of dance emerged – ballet, where grace, fluidity and the sheer beauty of movement took centre stage! And that's where our little tutus truly started their magic journey.

The early ballerinas, dressed in soft flowing dresses with little, itty-bitty, adorable, puffed-up skirts, began to crave a lighter, more aerodynamic form of movement, something that would allow them to leap, twirl and dance with the most amazing agility!

Enter, stage left, the tutu as we know it! They started as knee-length and then whoosh – the romanticism era made it shorter and shorter, until the classic "tutu" shape as we know it today became the norm!

You might think tutus are just for the stage, darling, but their allure goes far beyond the world of ballet. These darling frocks have become iconic, symbols of femininity, joy, and even a hint of rebellious spirit! Think about it, who doesn't love the way a tutu can transform even the most ordinary day into a fairytale adventure?!

They’ve popped up in films, fashion shows, and even adorned the coolest rock stars. There’s something inherently captivating about the tutus' air of graceful elegance.

Of course, today, we’re all about embracing our own personal tutu styles! Don't feel constrained to the traditional ones – get creative, explore! I'm totally into these trends for today:

• The Tutu Maxi: Channel your inner ballerina royalty with a stunning maxi-length tutu. Think ethereal flow, exquisite fabrics, and maybe even a sparkly tiara to complete the look. (It wouldn't be #TutuTuesday without a little sparkle, would it? ).
• The Ballet Street Style: Take it to the streets, darlings! Pair a sassy short tutu with a casual top or t-shirt, some cool trainers, and a touch of edgy jewellery – you'll have everyone on your street wondering where they can find a tutu of their own.
• The Festive Frock: Let's face it, nothing beats a twirly, shimmery tutu for special occasions. Think wedding celebrations, graduation parties, birthday parties. Just add a tiara, some sparkling jewelry, and watch the compliments roll in!

Right now, 2008, it's a phenomenal time for ballet. There's a real resurgence in interest for both classical and contemporary ballet across the globe, and tutus are in the limelight more than ever!

I've just returned from seeing "Swan Lake" at The Royal Opera House. Oh my word, it was simply stunning! The beautiful music, the exquisite costumes - those tutus! They were a feast for the eyes! You know I couldn't resist picking up a couple of souvenirs!
