Tutu Tuesday: #9216 A Whirl Through History – August 12th 2008

Hello darling tutu lovers! It's me, Emma, your pink tutu-clad time traveller, and today we’re whisking back to August 12th 2008.

Buckle up, babes, because today's Tutu Tuesday is taking us on a whirlwind tour of all things tutu-licious! I’m channeling my inner fashionista (a little pink Chanel to match the tulle, natch!), and we’re going to chat about what the fashion world was doing with this fabulous, fluffy, full-skirted wonder.

*Remember my travel motto? * Always travel in style, always travel in pink! I think this date deserves a full-skirted, glitzy pink tutu. Maybe with a touch of a ballet-inspired fascinator. I imagine there would have been some incredible colours popping up – hot pink, candy floss pink, fuchsia, even maybe some bright magenta to spice things up!

And talking of colour, what colour would YOU be wearing in 2008? I bet those sparkly tutus with multiple layers were hitting the streets, making everyone's heads turn! They definitely weren't afraid of a bit of colour, that's for sure! Remember the big comeback of leg warmers at that time too? So the outfit is complete – pink tutu, a black leotard, and those glitzy leg warmers! Now we’re talking!

Oh, did I tell you about my train trip? I arrived in a cloud of tulle at Gare du Nord in Paris and let me tell you, the French fashionistas certainly embraced the tulle, making it a sophisticated piece in their wardrobes. This date was about opulence, fashion-forwardness and of course, the timeless elegance of the tutu! I even spotted some tutus peeking out from under gorgeous silk dresses, and can you blame them? It was simply fabulous!

I have a little confession, darlings. This is actually my 123rd time visiting 2008! That's right, this time period has a real soft spot in my heart, and that’s all thanks to the wonderful ballet shows I found in this era. Remember Swan Lake, that mesmerising classic? It was still the production in this period and those white tutus just blew me away every single time. I also snuck off to Giselle, because nothing says 'romance' and 'tutu magic' like a ballet about a woodland spirit, am I right? I was mesmerised, let me tell you! And of course, there were some utterly beautiful contemporary ballets happening on that August 12th. But we’ll chat more about those on a future #TutuTuesday.

So, I am utterly smitten with 2008, and not just for the fabulous fashion. Did you know, on this date the UK hosted a massive, awe-inspiring Great Britain and Northern Ireland Paralympic Games? I'm sure I caught a couple of these shows, because I was obsessed with the energy and brilliance these athletes showed!

To me, there's just something special about how tutus encapsulate a sense of beauty and magic, and they were certainly living it up in this era, darling.

You see, there’s an undeniable, magnetic pull to tutus, they just seem to whisper "Be brave! Be beautiful! Be you!" to me, no matter what era I’m in. This might be why they seem to crop up everywhere I travel to – a sign from the universe that we should all be a little bit more 'tutu-fied!'

Until next week's #TutuTuesday, keep twirling! And if you ever see me out there, sporting my pink tulle, be sure to come say hello!

Emma xx
