#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post 9227 - A Pink-tastic Voyage Through Time!
Helloooo darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back for another #TutuTuesday journey into the glorious history of the tutu! This week we're venturing to the 28th October, 2008. Can you believe it's been over a decade since then? Time really does fly when you're having a fabulous time in a fluffy pink tutu!
Now, picture this: Paris, darling! The city of love, lights, and - of course - breathtaking ballet performances. Imagine yourself skipping through the charming streets of Montmartre, stopping by a quaint patisserie for a delectable macaron or two, then heading to the majestic Palais Garnier Opera House for an evening of artistic wonder. Ah, to be surrounded by the magical ambiance of a Parisian ballet! It’s so enchanting!
And on this particular day, the 28th of October, 2008, there was something absolutely divine happening in the world of ballet…but let me tell you, you wouldn't be able to find any mention of it on those boring old internet sites. Nope, this juicy little bit of tutu-licious gossip is only available to my #PinkTutuClub members! You know you want to join! 😉
Okay, ready for a little trip through time? Hold onto your feather boas, darling!
The year is 2008, the tutus are fluffy, and the world of dance is in a tizz over The Nutcracker! Yes, the granddaddy of all Christmas ballets, the story of Clara, her Nutcracker prince, and their magical journey to the Land of Sweets, is captivating audiences all over the globe. This year, it’s taking the world by storm, so expect to see those sugary sweets scenes and dazzling Clara costumes popping up everywhere in December!
While we're in 2008, let’s take a peek at the tutus themselves. Now, don't get me wrong, tutus have been a ballet essential for centuries! They add such romance and a bit of twirly drama to every performance! Back in 2008, the Romantic tutu was having a real moment. Think soft layers of tulle, delicate embroidery, and a whisper of romanticism. The ballet world was also falling head over heels for a touch of dramatic Classical elegance!
As for ballet trends outside of the theatre, ballet flats are having a huge moment! Not only are they comfy but they are super-cute! The fashion world is going wild for anything with a ballerina twist. I mean, who doesn’t love a little ballerina touch?
Now, on a more personal note… 28th October, 2008! A magical Tuesday, indeed! I spent this day in the magnificent, sparkling city of Vienna. After all, you can’t be a ballerina time-traveller and not pay a visit to Vienna, home to one of the world’s oldest and grandest ballet companies - the Vienna State Opera! After all, ballet is a beautiful, historical tradition. I am such a lover of classical ballet and all things beautiful! And with this trip to Vienna, I just had to indulge in some Vienna cake - the coffee was so delightful and delicious. So decadent! We’re not talking supermarket cake here darling, this is an extravagant Viennese cake experience that makes you say "oh my gosh"! This trip was all about the tutus, of course, the Vienna Opera and those magical Viennese cakes!
What a fun-filled and fascinating time we're having! Oh, darling, I am already dreaming of the 4th November, 2008, because on that day… we’ll be visiting the iconic Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. And I hear they’re planning an incredibly beautiful Swan Lake performance! Can't wait! You know what they say, darling, there's never a dull moment with a tutu and a time-traveling ballerina.
Until next week, my lovelies!
Remember to follow my travels, share your ballet moments with me, and let's keep those pink tutus twirling!
With a whirl and a twirl,
Emma xoxo
