#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time - January 6th, 2009 - Post #9237
Hello darlings! Itâs Emma here, back from another whirlwind trip through time and ready to share all the tutu-tastic discoveries with you! Today, I'm hopping back to January 6th, 2009. A Tuesday, of course, because #TutuTuesday is a tradition, you know!
Imagine it, darlings - the air buzzing with excitement! The smell of fresh popcorn and hot chocolate! The hum of a packed theatre. Ah, to be at the ballet!
This particular Tuesday, the London Royal Opera House was buzzing with anticipation for La Sylphide. Now, who else thinks La Sylphide is the most beautiful and romantic ballet ever?! The story, the music, the ethereal movements - it just whisks you away! I know, I know, you all have your favourites, but trust me, darling, La Sylphide is just divine!
Of course, I couldnât go to the Royal Opera House without making a pit stop at Liberty's, that gorgeous department store right across the road. Did I tell you I was there the other week in 1920s Paris? Such chic designs, darling! You must visit!
But back to our travels - January 6th, 2009, Liberty's was overflowing with stunning outfits. The perfect spot for a ballerina, wouldn't you agree? Imagine - a beautiful floor length ballgown to pair with my pale pink tulle tutu, all the lace and ruffles to make my heart flutter... Dreams!
I even spied some charming knitwear that day. Those 2009ers certainly loved their sweaters! They weren't quite as elegant as the designs from the Belle Epoque period, but they did make for a lovely contrasting layer. I can imagine wearing one of those chunky wool sweaters with a tulle tutu, layered over a shimmering top for an effortlessly chic and bohemian look! You see, even if we travel through time, darlings, the desire for fashion never dies!
After all that shopping, my little ballerina legs needed some rest. I decided to grab a pot of steaming tea (they made it in giant silver pots back then - you had to hold a little tea strainer in your cup! Extra fancy, I know!) and find a comfortable seat to watch the world go by.
You see, January 6th, 2009, was National Bobblehead Day - and it was a day filled with laughter. All across London, people were sporting quirky little bobbleheads! It was so delightful! There was a guy in a dapper tweed jacket, a couple of girls rocking giant bobbleheads of their favourite band members... and everyone was laughing and sharing fun! Who knew such a simple thing could make everyone's day?
That's one thing I truly love about these historical trips. They make me realise that the basic things are truly universal: the love of laughter, the delight in sharing something beautiful with friends, and the simple joy of just being with the world!
And of course, nothing brightens a day quite like the sight of a swirling pink tutu, my darlings! Even with a National Bobblehead Day celebration around me, my lovely tutu made everyone stop and stare! Itâs amazing how even just one detail can turn the whole atmosphere of a day from just âordinaryâ to amazing! It makes you wonder, doesnât it? What if every day were like a #TutuTuesday, where everyone took the time to just embrace the sparkle of life!
That night, after an evening at the Royal Opera House where the La Sylphide performance was perfection, I bid farewell to 2009 and the warmth of those January evenings, but the magic stayed with me - just like it always does after a magical ballet. Thatâs the wonder of travel, darlings - It gives us new stories, new sights, new dreams and most importantly, new ways to add sparkle and twirls to every single day!
So remember, even when the days seem ordinary, take a moment to twirl, and maybe even a sprinkle of pink magic - and who knows? Maybe youâll be creating a #TutuTuesday memory for the future.
Stay sparkly and until next time,
Emma xxx
