Tutu Tuesday: Ballet Tutu History - #9239
Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, and welcome to another #TutuTuesday! Today we're journeying back to 2009-01-20 – a date filled with excitement and a delightful dusting of tutus.
Oh, darling, how I do adore time travel! Imagine, being able to slip back to bygone eras and witness the wonder of tutus through the ages! I can see why this whole "history of ballet" business has gotten me a bit obsessed, especially as it's the perfect way to fund my fabulous travels. What better excuse for hopping a train to the ballet than research?! After all, tutus, dancing, and luxurious clothes go hand-in-hand!
But where are we today, you ask? Why, right here in the heart of ballet country: Paris! Ah, this beautiful city just begs for a twirl. The streets are brimming with fashionable folk – from the Parisian chic of the Tuileries Gardens to the avant-garde charm of Montmartre. Today, the grand Palais Garnier is my destination, where the iconic "La Bayadère" will be sweeping the stage tonight. This timeless ballet has mesmerized audiences since its premiere in 1877 and I’m positively bursting to witness the ethereal beauty of the ballet’s tutus. The dazzling white and pastel pink tutus in this masterpiece simply captivate the eye. They embody grace and elegance and just make me feel so utterly romantic.
But back to 2009, darlings! Imagine the buzz! On January 20th, 2009, the ballet world was ablaze with the latest designs and the exciting contemporary movements that would reshape the art form for the decades to come. You might remember a particular show, perhaps "Cinderella?" It played in Paris that very month, and rumour has it that it was a total spectacle of glittering tutus! The very idea of delicate ballet tulle and sparkly embellishments brings shivers of joy to my very core. Oh, what I would give to have been there, flitting amongst the stylish Parisian crowd!
Oh! Before I forget, a grand soirée at the Moulin Rouge in 2009. Now there’s an institution that embraced the tutu long before it was mainstream. The can-can had long cemented its place as a symbol of fun and excitement, and it was still going strong in 2009. While those "Moulin Rouge" tutus weren't strictly classical, they were just as impressive, and a testament to the power of the tutu.
While those dazzling tutu costumes captivated the dance world in 2009, what a treasure trove of sartorial delight this era has given us. There’s the emerging influence of couture fashion on the ballet – imagine: high-end, elegant, designer tutus! You wouldn’t see those at your average ballet class, but oh how stunning they must have been on stage. This marked the birth of a beautiful symbiosis between dance and fashion – a phenomenon we see ever more often today, especially with dancers as style icons. The ballerina's elegance and the sartorial innovation of the couturier – what a heady blend of beauty!
Remember darlings, no matter your style, remember that the pink tutu is always the ultimate fashion statement! Whether it's a romantic ballet tutu or a playful tutu for a summer day, let’s remember to spread that contagious pink tutu energy throughout our lives. Because let's be honest: there's nothing quite like a pink tutu to make you feel fabulous.
So grab your pink tutu and let’s take a whirl! Be sure to leave your comments below, I do love hearing from you! Remember to check in for next week’s Tutu Tuesday! And keep spreading the pink tutu love, my darlings!
Until then, be well and dance your hearts out, Emma xx
