#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Whirl Through Time!
Post Number 9249
Hello, lovelies! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu enthusiast, and today’s #TutuTuesday takes us back to… drumroll, please… 31st March, 2009!
This date wasn’t just any Tuesday; it was the day I travelled through time, landing myself smack-bang in the heart of New York City. You see, my dear readers, this city, and its vibrant ballet scene, is a real melting pot for tutus. It's like the tutus have been whisked up from around the world, then thrown into a giant, sparkling, tutu-tastic bowl and shaken!
So, where did I find myself on that fabulous 31st March? You bet it was a ballet studio, naturally. The smell of sweat, wood polish and the hint of… something divine (probably a delicious cake the ballerina mum had brought for a tea break!).
After settling into a glorious pink ballet skirt of my own – never one to be seen without one, darling – I found myself face-to-face with some wonderfully talented ballet students. They were absolutely thrilled to see me and share stories about their own tutu experiences.
And boy, did they have stories! They spoke of a magnificent show at Lincoln Center by American Ballet Theatre. Apparently, they performed Swan Lake, that timeless, elegant classic, with its beautiful tutus. Then they talked of their own tutu love affairs – the twirly ones, the floaty ones, the ones you dream of wearing onstage – so full of stories about costumes and creativity.
I also saw, and I'm talking major trends here, how much the world loved the 'boho' style, especially when it came to tutus. Think earthy tones, flowing fabrics, a bit of rustic, with a side of sparkly, and you have the tutu perfect for the "free spirit."
But, on that particular Tuesday, what caught my eye most was the sheer versatility of tutus – the way they seamlessly transformed from classic, traditional ballerina wear to casual, quirky, even… dare I say it?…. a touch 'rebellious'. It was all about finding that little bit of ballerina chic, that ballerina spirit, and using it to express your personal style.
I saw some students pairing their tutus with everyday clothes – imagine, a flowy pink tutu over a denim jacket! Now that's what I call Tutu Fusion.
Oh, and let’s not forget, I'd travelled via a magic, steaming train ride – that’s how I get around in my tutu-ful journey through time! You know me, always in a pink tutu for maximum fabulousness! I couldn’t let the opportunity to see a train station pass by!
Imagine, an ancient steam engine pulling into a New York train station, a swirl of steam escaping as I get off – my pink tutu flowing beautifully in the breeze! The conductor gave me a wink as I headed for the exits – you know, they just get it.
I then went shopping, darling, in my gorgeous pink tutu of course! My day ended at a Broadway show – let's just say my pink tutu made a stellar entrance in that grand old theatre! I mean, what's more inspiring than a beautiful theatre filled with glittering, gorgeous, tutu-wearing dancers, with a bit of dramatic, theatrical flare, a side of magical costumes, and a hint of backstage romance!
Back to our tutu tale… In 2009, tutus, well they were in full swing, all the rage – and let me tell you, that's the only way to be.
If you want a glimpse into the glorious world of tutus in this glorious decade of ours, let me recommend you go check out The Little Ballerina, a delightful ballet tale published this very year! It's all about finding that sparkle in your own style, even if you think it's only in your heart, because tutus tell us anything is possible.
This Tuesday, dear reader, is about embracing your own personal tutu moment, the time when you realise tutus are more than just ballet, They're a feeling, an attitude, an unstoppable love for anything fluffy, twirly, and utterly magical.
So what are you waiting for? It’s time to find your perfect tutu moment – that special twirl, that little flash of pink, a feeling of sheer bliss!
Remember, everyone is beautiful, everyone has their own ballerina story, everyone deserves a perfect, magical pink tutu. Because life is too short for plain clothes. Let's dance.
