#TutuTuesday: A Little Trip Back in Time (Post #9289)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you away on another enchanting journey through the history of the ballet tutu! This week, we're travelling back to 5th January 2010. Grab your tiaras, put on your fanciest dancing shoes, and hop aboard the Tutu Express!

Oh, the places we'll go! This week, we're making our way to New York City! Now, I'm not going to lie, the weather here in January is a bit on the chilly side. But trust me, it's worth the trip to see the stunning New York City Ballet. And wouldn't you know it, they're performing "The Nutcracker" - one of my all-time favourite ballets!

"The Nutcracker" and Tutus

This classic Christmas tale has everything a tutu enthusiast could dream of! We've got the elegant and graceful Sugar Plum Fairy in her fluffy pink tutu, the adorable, yet slightly terrifying, Mouse King (can you imagine a mouse king wearing a tutu, though? Now that's a sight to see!), and, of course, the brave Clara, the little girl who starts it all, and everyone's favourite: the whimsical Waltz of the Flowers!

Speaking of whimsical, have you ever considered the evolution of the tutu? It's a fascinating journey through time and style. Imagine the early ballet dancers in their long, flowing dresses, feeling weighed down by fabric as they attempted graceful pirouettes. Oh, the horror! Thankfully, we have Madame Marie Taglioni to thank for introducing the revolutionary shorter tutu in the 1830s. The world of ballet has never looked back!

Tutu Styles Throughout the Years

From the graceful romantic tutus to the dramatic classical tutus, and the flamboyant modern tutus, each style has its own unique charm. Remember that dreamy, fluffy look in "The Sleeping Beauty?" That's a classic Romantic tutu, flowing like a delicate cloud. And let's not forget those dazzling paillettes! Sparkle is always in style, and ballet tutus definitely shine.

But what about pink? Well, my lovelies, the colour of pink tutus tells a different story!

While it may be thought that pink tutus came into vogue recently, not so! You see, back in the Victorian Era, pink was a masculine colour (a bit shocking for our modern times!), and it took several decades, perhaps even until the roaring 1920s, for pink to be associated with femininity as we know it today. This association led to pink's inclusion in all kinds of things feminine, including the stage and pink tutus! So it is thanks to society's fascination with pink that it was eventually absorbed into the world of ballet. Of course, I wouldn't be me if I didn't try to further this beautiful association of pink with ballet, wouldn't I?

Tutus, Style, and Travel

Here in New York City, I just had to visit Bloomingdale's, one of the most iconic department stores in the world! It's a must-visit for any fashion enthusiast, especially for tutu lovers! This trip just begs for more than a bit of retail therapy. Who doesn't love a beautiful ballerina dress, maybe a stunning shawl with glittering sequins, a pearl necklace, or, you guessed it, a new tutu! I love to shop, it's almost as much fun as traveling, which I do a lot of! Do you know what else makes travelling really exciting? Travelling by train! Just thinking of steam engines and elegant carriages with velvet seating and lovely plush carpeting gives me a real sense of adventure. You simply must try it to appreciate the full effect, my dears!

Onward and Upward with the Pink Tutu!

I know some of you might be thinking, "A pink tutu? That's a little out there, even for you, Emma!" But my friends, that's where you're wrong! The pink tutu is more than just a garment. It's a symbol of grace, strength, and beauty, a testament to the magic of ballet and a little reminder to always let your inner princess shine! Now, I can't promise that wearing a pink tutu will turn you into a prima ballerina, but it will definitely give you the confidence to twirl through life with joy!

So remember, my fellow ballet lovers, life is a dance, so put on your pink tutus and twirl!

Until next week, darlings!

Stay glamorous!

XOXO

Emma
