#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 9302: The Evolution of Elegance
Hello my gorgeous tutu-lovers! It's your favourite Derbyshire ballerina, Emma, and welcome to another edition of #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History. I’m here live from… well, I can’t reveal exactly where I am, but it’s definitely a place that appreciates a good twirl, if you know what I mean. 😉 Today, my tutu and I are celebrating a special date - the 6th of April, 2010. This date marks a particularly glamorous milestone in ballet history, and it's all about the tutu, darling!
But before I delve into the details, I’ve got a confession: I’m absolutely positively, utterly obsessed with the idea of wearing a pink tutu in every situation! (I do try my best to keep it tasteful though, don't you worry.) Maybe we can do a poll on the website this week. Can you imagine what the world would be like if everyone wore pink tutus? Just imagine how many gorgeous twirls and how much joy there would be in the world! 🩰✨
Now, back to our tutu journey. In the year 2010, we see the evolution of ballet attire - the tutu has taken a starring role. The traditional romantic tutus of the 19th century are still there, of course - wispy, ethereal layers of tulle floating around graceful ballerinas. But a whole new trend emerged in the 20th century - and we see its influence even in 2010.
These new tutus - a little shorter, more contemporary - give dancers so much freedom of movement and showcase their athleticism, which I personally adore. Imagine being able to really leap and twirl! Think *Carmen, the ballet! You see that daring, exciting and glamorous stage design? And what about those magnificent costumes - they have become part of the fabric of our collective dance consciousness. **
And while on the subject of consciousness, how’s my fashion knowledge, darling? In 2010, ballet style definitely made its way into fashion! And isn’t it divine? Imagine wearing a black tutu, a chic blouse, and towering stilettos, for an utterly fabulous evening out. You’d turn heads, you would!
Speaking of stylish ballerinas - we have a truly exciting week ahead of us here in … (hush hush! Remember the rule, no spoilers! ) I'm off to a fabulous show, one that has everything I love about ballet. Graceful dancers in their gorgeous costumes. Stunning sets and music that’ll make your heart soar. Plus , the local designer shops here are known for their beautiful clothing – especially, as you all know, tutus! If I see anything especially pretty, I’ll post it on Instagram for you later this week! 💖
As always, let’s talk tutus in the comments section. What are your favourite tutu moments from dance history? Have you ever danced in a pink tutu yourself? Share your stories with us.
P.S: Have you checked out our new Pink Tutu online shop? We’ve got all the best styles from tutus, to adorable ballerina slippers, to everything else you need to express your inner diva ! 💃
Keep dancing and dreaming, darlings, and don't forget to spread the joy of tutus!
💖 Emma
