#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post 9306

Bonjour from Paris, my lovely tutu-lovers!

Itā€™s Tuesday, which means itā€™s time for another #TutuTuesday delve into the delightful history of the tutu. Today Iā€™m buzzing from a spectacular ballet at the Palais Garnier! The intricate choreography, the vibrant costumes (hello, pink!), and the pure artistry just had me soaring on a cloud of tulle.

Speaking of tulleā€¦ how about we hop on the magical Parisian metro (all aboard! Don't mind if I do!) and travel back in time to 4th May 2010. Letā€™s find out what the world of the tutu was up to back then!

Now, you may not know this, but 2010 was a big year for tutus! We saw some fabulous ballet premieres, plus exciting fashion trends where the tutu started creeping into street style, making the once-exclusive dancewear suddenly edgy and mainstream. We canā€™t let this exciting time slip by without a proper historical examination, can we?

Fashionā€™s Fancy: Tutus Taking the Stage

Remember when the Ballet National de Marseille premiered Angelin Preljocajā€™s Snow White back in 2008? Well, this beautifully macabre interpretation of the classic fairy tale, featuring a cast of ballerinas in ethereal and utterly breathtaking tutus, really started a fashion fire that ignited everyoneā€™s imagination. I may have even inspired myself to purchase a similar dusky pink tulle creation in Paris just last week, and trust me, itā€™s as chic as it gets!

Another highlight of the year was the unveiling of Wayne McGregorā€™s ballet Woolf Works, which featured a dramatic and experimental use of tutus, showcasing their versatility beyond the traditional. This innovative piece proved that the tutu wasnā€™t just a piece of dancewear; it was a canvas for bold expression.

From Ballet to The Street: A Tutu Revolution!

Remember, 2010 was a time when the tutu, like the intrepid fashionistas I admire, started pushing boundaries. No longer solely associated with the dance stage, this darling of the ballet world began gracing street style, inspiring designers to incorporate tulle into everything from dresses and skirts to even daring headbands!

Imagine it: a world where you could slip on a stylish, oh-so-chic tulle skirt for a coffee date with friends, or add a touch of ballerina elegance to your daily ensemble with a graceful tutu headband! Dare I say, I think we were starting to take the ā€œpink-ificationā€ of fashion seriously back then. (Did I just whisper my ultimate dream goal aloud? Oops!)

Ballet Dreams: Where Dreams and Tutues Combine

Now, of course, 2010 wasn't all about street style; the ballet world itself was buzzing with amazing performances. On this particular 4th of May, I imagine audiences were completely enthralled at the Teatro Real in Madrid watching the Royal Balletā€™s Manon, while in London, the Royal Opera House was captivating the public with Swan Lake. I love seeing the classics revisited!

You know I simply couldnā€™t resist, I had to go experience Swan Lake for myself last week. I adore the choreography, the majestic swans, and the iconic white tutus (although I did have my eyes peeled for any potential pink optionsā€¦a girl can dream!). Let me tell you, the entire show left me feeling positively enchanted, like a fairy tale coming to life.

The Power of a Pink Tutu: A Magical Tale

Did you know that tutus hold an incredibly special place in my heart (apart from maybe pink and vintage trains, of course)? To me, they are a symbol of grace, joy, and artistic freedom - just like wearing a pink tutu makes me feel utterly fabulous! You simply cannot underestimate the transformative power of this iconic garment.

Let me leave you with this thought: just as we all can take inspiration from the dedication and hard work of a ballerina, we too can embrace our inner dancer, twirl into our own stories, and create our own magical moments of beauty!

*Have a delightful week, my dear readers. Remember to embrace your inner ballerina! *

Always in tulle, Emma
