#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time! - 19th October 2010

Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, darlings! It’s your favourite Tutu Tuesday, and this week, I’ve travelled back to 19th October 2010 for a peek at the world of ballet tutus.

It’s all pink over here in my latest time travel spot, which is – oh my gosh! – New York City! I know, isn’t it amazing? This metropolis of dreams and Broadway shows is just as magical as I imagined it.

Now, my outfit. It's practically an assault on the senses, even for New Yorkers, who are quite used to the extraordinary. Imagine this, my dears: a cloud of blush pink tulle swirling around my knees, matched with a silk, cherry blossom-patterned top, and oh, I’ve got my favourite pink ballet pumps on my feet, so comfy and so very New York, don’t you think? The perfect ensemble for my first taste of American ballet history!

Right then, back to our #TutuTuesday journey…

Today in 2010, the world is abuzz with anticipation! I just got tickets for New York City Ballet's season opening. That’s right, my lovelies, we are in for a real treat, with performances by Tiler Peck, a stunning dancer, and our dashing English star, David Hallberg! They're performing the “Jewels” by Balanchine – I’m positively quivering! Imagine emerald and sapphire, a swirling galaxy of dance moves… If only you could have smelled the excitement of the throngs heading for the theater – it's pure magic, like you’re on a Broadway stage waiting to start your big debut.

And talking of stars, let’s talk tutus. The year 2010 in New York City was a time when the world of ballet tutus was shifting! You know I love my traditional tutu, all tulle and romantic charm, but by now, we were starting to see more daring designs.

Gone were the days of exclusively traditional white and pink – 2010 was bursting with vibrant hues like scarlet, midnight blue, and even that glorious lime green, making a tutu a true piece of performance art! It’s what makes these little dancing skirts such an icon: the sheer diversity, the creative expression!

Speaking of the art of it all, can you believe it wasn’t too long ago that tutus weren't just worn by the leading ladies of the stage? No, my darlings! These days there’s so much ballet street fashion around that I've even seen my favourite, classic pink tutus paired with a jeans jacket and cool trainers! Now that’s what I call a fab statement! A dance-loving spirit mixed with edgy street style? Perfect!

Oh, before I get swept away in the whirlwind of fashion – and who wouldn't be, surrounded by these chic New Yorkers?! - I must tell you what else is going on. 2010 is the year Tchaikovsky’s ‘Nutcracker’ is coming back with a new production! Imagine my delight.

I know I love to go back in time, but “Nutcracker” is something that always reminds me why the past is so wonderfully vibrant and how ballet continues to grow and move forward, keeping its charm and timeless grace intact. I simply adore the romantic stories of ballet, they just resonate with a deep sense of wonder and magic.

And this little time traveller’s love for the “Nutcracker” and ballet in general is the kind that encourages everyone to twirl a little! So remember my motto: Always wear a pink tutu!

Don’t forget to join me next Tuesday for more fabulous Tutu Tuesdays! You can follow my adventures on Instagram, TikTok and of course, here on my very own www.pink-tutu.com, where every post is a sprinkle of ballet fairy dust!

And now, to catch the train back home, to a life where I can always wear a pink tutu! I'll be twirling through Derbyshire, dreaming of more journeys and sharing my love for ballet with everyone. Because honestly, what else could you do? Wear a pink tutu, darlings, and see the magic unfold.
