#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post #9347

February 15th, 2011: A Tutu-ful Day for the Arts!

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to your favourite weekly dose of pink-tastic tutu history! It’s Emma here, your time-travelling tutu enthusiast, bringing you all the fabulous fashion insights from the world of ballet. Today, we’re waltzing back to 2011, a year overflowing with artistic delights!

Remember last week's journey back to 1920s Paris? We marvelled at the flowing, layered tutus favoured by dancers then. Well, darling, things were about to change, and change they did, dramatically!

2011: A Tutu-mentary Journey

Oh, the Glamour! The 2011 ballet scene was brimming with vibrant new choreography and stunning costumes. Tutus still held the spotlight, but now they were more fluid, dynamic, and daring! Gone were the rigid structures of the past; we were entering the age of the expressive, form-fitting, and sometimes surprisingly daring tutu.

Imagine, my dears, a tutu designed to embody the swirling movements of a modern ballet. It was a revolutionary change.

Let me share a few exciting happenings from that day, February 15th, 2011:

The Stage Awaits!

  • In London, the Royal Ballet was preparing for a spectacular production of The Sleeping Beauty. Now, if you’ve ever seen Sleeping Beauty, you’ll know those iconic, perfectly poised princess tutus are to die for!
  • Meanwhile, over at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre, the legendary Rambert Dance Company was performing a piece called The Work - a breathtaking blend of contemporary and traditional dance. Just imagine the amazing tutu styles involved, showcasing both elegant classical forms and dynamic modern moves!

Fashion Fancies!

It wasn't all just about ballet, my darlings. The fashion world was taking inspiration from dance, and a playful, feminine look was all the rage! Tutus and ballet-inspired dresses were a trend in high street fashion too! I even spotted a tutu-inspired skirt on a street style blog! Who needs the theatre, eh?

I have to confess, I had an absolute ball this week! Just picturing all those tutus… it’s enough to make my little dancer heart leap for joy! And then, just for added delight, I went on a shopping spree at Liberty's, the famous London department store!

You know how much I adore the classic ballet slipper look, and this week's purchase was a pair of fabulous fuchsia pumps, absolutely perfect for channeling my inner prima ballerina. It felt so right to celebrate all things ballet!

Pink-Tastic Travels!

You might have spotted me on the platform of Euston Station earlier this week - I travelled first class on the Virgin Trains Pendolino to London! Isn't that a dreamy mode of transport? And speaking of dreamy... have you seen the vintage dress I picked up in a quaint boutique? It's a beautiful peach silk number with lace detailing, perfect for a balletic-themed cocktail party, if you fancy being a little bit vintage glamour!

Spreading the Tutu Love!

It’s truly been a joyous week, and I just adore sharing all of it with you! After all, life's too short not to wear a pink tutu. Whether you’re watching the dancers onstage, on the high street, or just enjoying the thrill of fashion inspiration - I hope that this blog inspires you to get your pink tutu on!

As usual, I want to hear from you all! Have you ever worn a tutu outside of ballet class? Have you got a favourite ballet performance memory to share? Do let me know - I simply love to hear from you!

Until next time, happy tutuing and keep the sparkle alive!

Love, Emma
