Tutu Tuesday #9356: A Blast From the Past!

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu-loving, time-travelling ballerina! Today is Tutu Tuesday and this week we're taking a trip back in time, to 19th April 2011! My goodness, the fashion! The hairstyles! I felt like I'd stepped out of a vintage movie, all swirling skirts and sleek buns!

I've just hopped off the train from London where I saw a simply divine Royal Ballet performance at the Royal Opera House. Can you believe it's over a decade ago? But you know me, always obsessed with the history of the tutu, so I had to make a trip to The V&A museum after the show. I absolutely love seeing the historical costumes in museums, getting to understand the artistry that goes into each design, how the way we dress has evolved.

And honestly, the 2011 era felt like it was embracing the old-world romance of the tutu. Think swirling tulle, layers of frills, and just a hint of modernity. They still used the classic designs but with a subtle contemporary twist. Imagine, darlings, a ballerina's outfit, just a tiny bit more whimsical, a bit more fun!

Now, what did 19th April 2011 have to offer for tutu-lovers like myself? Well, on this particular day, the world was buzzing with the news of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton! I mean, it was truly a fairy tale moment! Not just for the two of them, but for the whole world! Who could resist those glamorous images of the wedding?

The royal fashion, and the way the world reacted, had everything to do with the resurgence of the romantic, classic, almost timeless charm of the tutu. It was the kind of style you'd find in the romantic stories of Tchaikovsky or Offenbach, and I, being a passionate ballerina who practically lives in my pink tutu, could only say hallelujah! It was such a glorious feeling, the way that all these fashion trends seemed to whisper "tutu".

Even modern fashion, on this day in 2011, was dipping into a softer side, you know, incorporating the tulle, the puffiness, the almost theatrical elegance of the ballet world! I remember being so enthralled by how the world seemed to be embracing this whimsical style, especially in celebratory, glamorous moments like the royal wedding.

Of course, a trip to London in 2011 was incomplete without some serious shopping! Now, while there were definitely trends going on in fashion boutiques, I couldn't resist a little vintage treasure hunting, visiting some of the incredible retro clothing shops in Covent Garden! I managed to score a truly exquisite pink chiffon scarf, absolutely perfect for throwing over a tutu on a day when you're just feeling fabulous. You can't wear a pink tutu everywhere, darlings, but a little bit of flair is always appropriate!

It's incredible how a little trip to the past can remind us of how exciting and versatile the tutu can be. You can always find new ways to embrace its timeless charm, even a century later! It just goes to show that true style never truly goes out of fashion. It might just need a little bit of tweaking, maybe a dash of modernity, and voilร , it's back to being the fabulous, elegant, utterly charming style it's always been!

So there you have it, darlings! The joy of the tutu never fades, even across centuries. I know that my quest to make pink tutus a must-have in everyone's wardrobe isn't over. I mean, can you imagine a world where everyone just embraces the freedom and playfulness of the tutu?! It's a vision I'm determined to bring to reality!

Keep dancing, keep shining, and most importantly, keep twirling!

Don't forget to tune in next week for a new installment of Tutu Tuesday, darlings! Until then, I hope your week is filled with joy, twirls, and of course, a touch of pink!

Emma xoxo
