#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post #9358 (2011-05-03)

Hello darlings! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another installment of my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History series! I'm Emma, your resident pink-tutu-loving time traveller, and I'm thrilled to be taking you on another fabulous journey through the history of the tutu. This week, we're going all the way back to 2011! Oh my goodness, was I ever feeling like a total trendsetter then! Let's get right to it, shall we?

Today is May 3rd, 2011 and, my dears, the fashion world is buzzing with excitement! Remember how we all loved the '80s resurgence in the late '90s? Well, fashion has been moving on from there and there's a whole new wave of excitement now, fuelled by what people are calling “The Early 2000s Revival.” The new aesthetic seems to be heavily inspired by Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and a whole host of bubblegum pop artists and celebrities. I'm getting very nostalgic and reminiscing about the era that my darling grandma calls “the dawn of the modern age”.

But back to us tutu aficionados! Let's talk tutus in 2011! Well, the biggest news in ballet history is Black Swan which came out in December 2010! The stunningly designed tutu that Natalie Portman wears is simply breathtaking! There is even a collection called the “Black Swan Collection” for "all you black swans out there" that includes a replica of Natalie Portman's tutus! My grandma went absolutely bonkers for that and actually wore one to the 2011 Derby May Day procession (more about May Day festivities later, darlings). The ballet film was directed by “my lovely darling, *Darren Aronofsky, *and it really shows how the fashion world looks up to ballet, you know, even outside the theatre!

There is a real "ballet bubble", and with the advent of social media and fashion blogs like mine, people everywhere are following "our", ”balletomanes", trend leads on everything from our beautiful costumes to how we style them outside of the dance studio! The beauty of a classic tutu is timeless, but modern balletwear like those new "legging tutus" and other styles that really show off those gorgeous arabesques! I think I might need to snag one to take back to the “present”. My Derbyshire grandmother is going to go absolutely ballistic when she sees it!

Right, well as a total ballet enthusiast, today is quite exciting as I'm planning to make a pilgrimage to Covent Garden! I hear that "our darling", “Margot Fonteyn, “, the absolute darling of classical ballet, is a guest for a ballet company performance there this week! I absolutely must snap a picture of her and share it with you all next week in a #TutuTuesday dedicated entirely to Margot Fonteyn. Oh my god! Can you believe this is actually my life!? It’s just too much to bear!

I simply must go for some serious clothes shopping while I'm here! This year is all about "pretty-pastel tones", and “my love", the colour pink “is just darling for that feminine look". I'm going to start my spree at Topshop! Then maybe I can drop in to ASOS, H&M, Primark... I think I'll end the evening at the “Theatre Royal, Drury Lane,” and maybe even snag myself a souvenir programme or a little memento, something that “you", my sweet, little reader can be the envy of all the others back in Derbyshire for when I return!

As for my journey here today... Oh, it was divine, as always! A nice smooth trip on the “The London to Derby Line” on “our darling", “East Midlands Trains" in a lovely cream carriage. My dear reader, this may not sound so exciting but, to “a total fan of this type of fashion travel" like myself, this truly makes all the difference in making me feel as comfortable and confident as possible, as this is so important, so "I just know how lovely you feel when you take your best and most comfortable outfit on the road", and it just feels absolutely divine to "take in all the fabulousness" when travelling with "an absolute passion". I've even been told "the perfect look", for travelling, is a black tutu! So fabulous! So "fashion-savvy".

Speaking of fashion, did you catch the latest Chanel show? I loved the collection, though a bit less romantic for us tulle lovers, with an all-white couture ensemble featuring a fluffy skirt. I'd just imagine a whole ballerina corps de ballet dressed like this. They must've felt “oh-so” angelic and ethereal! The show ended with the Chanel team bowing to applause on a runway that resembled a stage and featured white dancers, oh so very lovely, oh so "so-tutti", so elegant.

This kind of stuff has me dreaming of "creating", my darling, “an absolute perfect dream show with dancers on stage in flowing white tutus with angelic wings!”. How divine that would be, you say? Let me know what you think on my pink-tutu.com social media platform, darlings!

Well, it's getting late. I think this might be all for this week. Don't forget to check out next week’s #TutuTuesday! I can’t wait to see what fashion surprises the coming weeks bring. In the meantime, happy twirling everyone!

Oh, darling, “one last thought before I go! ” This time of year is especially lovely because of May Day in the UK! This year the theme in my neck of the woods is “Celebrating 60 years of Queen Elizabeth" in a tribute to “her fabulous, most divine reign”. The parade, in Derbyshire, is always wonderful! And oh my, they dress so gorgeously, it’s as though you've stepped straight into “a ballet scene”, especially with "my darlings", the little ones all dressed as the little dancing dolls you see in the royal processions!

“Remember my loves, wear your tutu!” This life, the "beauty, the joy" is just the best, darling. I must scoot! See you next week!

Lots of Love,

Emma
