Tutu Tuesday: A Twirl Through Time! 🩰✨ (Post #9382)

Hello, lovelies! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-wearing time traveller. As always, it’s a glorious Tutu Tuesday, and this week, I’m whisking us back to the 18th of October, 2011. That's right, we're stepping into the world of tutus as they were just over a decade ago! Now, put on your most sparkly shoes, grab a cup of tea (or a glass of champagne!), and let's take a trip through the shimmering history of ballet.

A Brief Ballet Blitz:

Back in 2011, the ballet world was buzzing! In the UK, The Royal Ballet was celebrating its 75th anniversary with a glamorous production of 'The Sleeping Beauty' - an absolute dream! If you were in London that week, you might have seen the breathtaking tutus swishing past on their way to Covent Garden. I’ll admit, I almost booked a ticket to see it - I'm a sucker for a good royal affair, you know!

Speaking of royals, the legendary ballerina Darcey Bussell had recently taken on the role of Principal Guest Artist with The Royal Ballet, thrilling ballet enthusiasts all across the land. A true icon, her performances were, as they still are, pure magic.

Of course, ballet wasn't just happening in the UK. Around the world, ballets were filling the air with grace and elegance. American Ballet Theatre was celebrating its 75th anniversary as well, with productions like ‘The Nutcracker’ drawing in crowds worldwide. What better way to get into the festive spirit than with a swirl of tutus and a sprinkling of fairy dust?

2011 Tutu Style: A Little Whimsy and a Touch of Drama

Now, let’s chat fashion. In 2011, tutus were definitely having a moment. Ballet-inspired fashion was HUGE! I can just picture all the fabulous fashionistas around the world, twirling in tulle skirts and romantic blouses, channeling their inner prima ballerina. (You can see why it was the inspiration for my website! 😜).

Think dreamy chiffon dresses, lace detailing, and that irresistible peekaboo glimpse of leg through the billowing fabric. Tutus had transitioned from purely on-stage apparel to the runways and beyond! It was the era of romantic femininity and elegance - perfect for my pink tutu-loving soul.

My Own 2011 Tutu Story:

My journey to the past took me to New York, a city where ballet seems to seep into the very streets. That day, I felt particularly inspired by the sheer power and grace of the dancers, and I decided to treat myself to a shopping spree at a chic boutique. I came home with a little treasure – a soft pink tulle skirt with shimmering sequins, perfect for a special occasion. I even tried pairing it with a crisp white shirt for a bit of that Parisian ballerina vibe – what a fabulous mix!

Remember: It’s always fun to think about fashion through the ages, but don’t forget, it’s not about chasing trends - it’s about finding your own unique style and twirling with confidence. Remember that pink tutu you’ve always wanted to wear? Maybe this is the day to dust it off and strut your stuff.

Until next Tutu Tuesday, darlings!

Emma xoxo
