#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - A Whirl Through Time! (Post #9425)

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back again with another exciting #TutuTuesday! Today, we're stepping back in time to the 14th August, 2012 - a date that, frankly, doesn't scream "tutu" to me, but that's the joy of time travel, right? Exploring the unknown, and perhaps, finding some tutu magic along the way!

Now, where do I start? 2012 was such a whirlwind year - London hosted the Olympics, we had a new Queen in the UK, and... wait, did you know that back in the 2012 world, people actually had to buy music from an album?! The nerve! We can download an entire symphony of beautiful music at the touch of a button!

Anyway, let's get back to tutus. The year 2012 wasn't bursting with revolutionary changes in the tutu world. Back then, the "classic" tutu - a delightful fluff of tulle designed for twirling and grand jetés - was the king of the stage.

But you know me, I'm all about breaking boundaries! Even back in those days, I was trying to introduce a bit more colour and fun into the tutu scene. Think vibrant pinks, bold yellows, and a sprinkle of turquoise. You know, something a little more "Emma" and a little less "tradition." And you know what? I found some fabulous boutiques that embraced my colourful visions!

It’s funny to think about the past when the Internet wasn’t as all-encompassing as it is now. It felt almost revolutionary back then when I found shops selling the most divine tutus online! Who needs brick and mortar when you can have the whole world of tulle delivered straight to your door?

On a serious note, I must say I am grateful for all the tutu inspiration of the past. I'm standing here today in my pink fluffy masterpiece thanks to the dedication and creativity of generations of designers and dancers. And let's not forget the iconic tutu of the famous Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova. Her legendary swan tutus (sometimes made of actual swan feathers!) were just… magnifique!

But of course, 2012 wasn't just about classic tutus! The Ballet Theatre of Moscow, who I had the privilege of seeing perform that year, were trailblazers when it came to modernising ballet! Imagine – they even featured tutus made from everyday objects!

My heart just leaped! There’s something about the juxtaposition of everyday objects and ballet that really gets me going. And speaking of leaps… it’s so weird to think about a time when I was hopping onto a train to London just for a night of balletic wonder, while today, thanks to my Time Machine (which, of course, I’ve dubbed “The Tutu Express!”), I’m hopping onto a train to anytime I want to go!

Anyway, let me finish my #TutuTuesday blog with a huge THANK YOU to all of you! Your support makes this whole time travelling tutu adventure so much fun! So let's keep spreading the pink tutu love! And remember, even if you're not in Derbyshire (which, by the way, is the most beautiful county in all of England, no argument there!), you can always add a bit of tutu sparkle to your life!

Stay fashionable! Stay pink! And see you next week for another blast from the past!

Emma xx
