#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post #9442
Hey loves! Itās Emma, your favourite pink-loving tutu-obsessed blogger, bringing you another fab #TutuTuesday blog post! Iām so excited to share some ballet tutu history with you, especially because Iāve been on a whirlwind trip back in time today! This weekās historical tutu adventure has taken me toā¦wait for itā¦ drumroll 11th December 2012!
I always knew there was a special energy in this year, with all the talk of the world ending and the Olympics happening and everything. And, wouldnāt you know it, I bumped into the most incredible ballet tutu designs! I felt like a little ballerina stepping straight into a storybook ā everything was so exciting, sparkly and just full of life!
The tutu ā the story so farā¦
I know you guys love the tutus as much as I do, but we all know a little knowledge goes a long way, right? And the ballet tutu, like the ballet itself, is all about elegance and beauty. So, letās dive into a quick bit of history togetherā¦
The ballet tutu first burst onto the stage way back in the 1830s when Romantic ballets became all the rage, full of ethereal nymphs and sylphs flitting through forests. You know the style ā long, flowing skirts, creating beautiful lines as they twirled and leapt! The tutu evolved quite a lot during this time. The āRomantic tutuā, which looks like a mini-crinoline skirt, took the stage first. Then the ābell tutuā took over, with a slightly shorter and wider skirt with more fullness. I just loved seeing these on stage! Itās so funny how each stage of the tutuās journey is a window into the times ā itās so cool! Itās like the ballet skirt had a life of its own.
And talking of life of its ownā¦ 11th December 2012 had the most spectacular ballet shows. You would not believe how excited I was to witness all these glorious designs in person! Itās one thing to see them in old photographs, itās another thing to actually feel that energy live on stage.
I went to see the most fantastic performance of the Royal Balletās āThe Nutcrackerā ā they always put on an absolutely show-stopping Christmas extravaganza, you know! All those beautiful little ballerinas with their adorable tutus - the most incredible outfits ā absolutely divine.
On the street: Tututification, all around!
One thing that absolutely floored me on my trip was the huge explosion of the tutu look outside the ballet world! I found some truly inspired tutu-fied creations walking the streets of London and even out in Derbyshire. The "balletcore" trend had caught on ā just what I'd hoped for! People everywhere were channeling the ballerina vibes! I even found a little girl dressed in the most adorable ballerina-inspired tutu-like dress - I literally stopped to give her a hug! She told me all about the dancing she was doing and said I was her idol. How sweet is that! She reminded me so much of why I'm on this tutu journey ā to spread that joy and fun.
But hey, my dear readers, donāt think that I've forgotten about my signature colourā¦ The pink tutu had absolutely arrived! Iāve been watching it all unfold from my travels across the decades ā pink tutu inspiration has been bubbling up everywhere for quite some time. From high fashion runways to fashion magazines and street style ā itās all over! Even on this trip to 2012, the pink tutus were taking centre stage in their fabulous, fun, and fiercely feminine ways.
Shopping like a ballerinaā¦
I just had to treat myself to some fabulous new additions for my own tutu collection! I found the most wonderful online store with so many beautiful pink tutus ā everything from gorgeous chiffon styles to dazzling sequin-covered ones. They even had a gorgeous selection of tutus in every other colour of the rainbow ā from shimmering gold to classic white, there was something for every ballerinas' taste. Itās the dream! I have a massive pink tutu closet! We must support these fantastic little businesses - because after all, tututification needs tutus!
A little trip down memory lane ā¦
After such a fun-filled day of tutus and inspiration, I took myself to a classic cafe, and enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate. Itās an essential part of a great day! It just makes the whole experience even better. You really need a cuppa for this life! You can't just jump out of a time machine without a proper English cuppa, darling!
Oh! And before I forgetā¦ Today in history, on 11th December 2012, the world didn't end! I am eternally grateful ā not just for the amazing tutu finds ā but that my amazing time travel journeys donāt seem to mess up time too much.
Well, thatās it from me for this #TutuTuesday blog post. Join me again next week as we delve back into some more tutu history, but until then - go out there and embrace those ballerina vibes! And, always remember ā¦ every day is Tutu Day, in your heart!
Stay stylish, stay fabulous, Emma xoxo
