Tutu Tuesday: A Whirlwind Through Time! (Post #9449)
Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, and it's #TutuTuesday again! I'm back from a quick trip to, well, I can't tell you exactly where I've been this time, but I can say it was fabulous! The train journey was a dream - I do love the rhythmic clatter of the rails and the exciting scenery rushing by - and the city I visited was simply bursting with colour and creativity.
Today's Tutu Tuesday takes us right back to January 29th, 2013, just before my time-travel machine really hit its stride. This particular day held something very special in the ballet world⌠a whirlwind, I daresay!
Let's journey back in time, shall we? Imagine, if you will, a Parisian salon, buzzing with gossip and anticipation. Fashion magazines spill over with photos of glittering dresses and exotic hats. We're talking sleek black gowns, elegant flapper dresses, and, of course, tutus - tutus of every colour under the rainbow!
Yes, darling, even in 2013, the world of ballet was embracing tutus in a way that makes my heart sing! They werenât confined to the stage - fashion designers were weaving them into the fabric of everyday wear! You could see dancers swirling through the streets of London, New York, Paris, even little olâ Derbyshire, wearing beautiful tutus as they dashed from rehearsal to a cafe, their hair swept up in a neat ballerina bun, looking chic and oh so confident.
It was an incredible time for tutus. The iconic ballerina tutus we know and love, the ones that float and spin with such magical grace, had already become a symbol of the beautiful art form. You see, my dears, tutus had a rich history at that point - one filled with a little bit of glitter, a whole lot of creativity, and some rather dramatic turns in fashion.
Think of all the stunning women who had worn those glorious tutus over the centuries: Marie Taglioni, the very first to grace the stage in a tutu; the graceful and daring Anna Pavlova; and of course, the extraordinary Margot Fonteyn, whose tutus danced around the world, capturing hearts everywhere she went. They are the names, my dears, that were on the lips of everyone interested in dance back in 2013 - names whispered on the stage of grand opera houses, whispered on bustling cobbled streets, and whispered around the cozy warmth of my local tea shop in Derby.
Even back in those days, my love for tutus was deeply rooted! In fact, I even attended my first professional ballet performance that very same year in the Theatre Royal in Nottingham - and boy, was it a show! It was âSwan Lake,â a timeless classic! Seeing those beautiful, majestic swans gliding across the stage in their dazzling, pristine tutus, their movements as light and delicate as feathers in the wind, was truly a breathtaking experience! I felt my very own tutus twirling inside me!
My goodness, those swans inspired a surge of excitement within me, my heart practically jumped out of my chest! I had to see more. I simply couldnât stop until I had seen every performance under the sun, until I had watched each elegant tutu spin in front of me in every possible shade, from a blush-pink to a dazzling scarlet, and from a dazzling emerald to a stunning sky blue.
To this day, every time I put on my tutu - which, let's be honest, is fairly often! - it reminds me of that first experience. The feeling of joy, freedom, and pure elegance, that magic is what drew me to the ballet and the wondrous world of tutus in the first place, and itâs a magic I strive to spread wherever I go!
You see, my dearest, that magic, that beauty, that enchanting feeling of swirling around in a delicate layer of tulle⌠that's what makes a tutu so special! It doesnât matter if youâre a ballerina in a grand theatre, or you're dancing down the street with your best friend, the right tutu makes you feel utterly confident, radiant, and empowered.
So my darlings, what are you waiting for? Go and find your own magical tutu. Whether itâs pink, purple, turquoise, or adorned with delicate lace and beautiful bows, a tutu will help you create a new memory every time you wear it, every time you spin and twirl and laugh and sing!
That's my little bit of advice for today. Now, go on, get out there, put on your tutu, and take the world by storm, my dear ones!
Stay fabulous!
Yours in tutus,
Emma xx
