Tutu Tuesday: #9487 - A Tutu Tale From The Past!
Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu! I’m your resident tutu enthusiast, Emma, and today is #TutuTuesday, which means it’s time to travel through time and explore the magnificent world of tutu history. Today we're dipping our toes into the tutu-filled waters of October 22nd, 2013, and oh my goodness, are we in for a treat!
Now, before I whip out my time-traveling ballet shoes, let's grab a cuppa and some of those adorable pink macarons I found at that quaint little café in the Marais district (don't worry, they're gluten-free!), and let's dive into this delightful tutu adventure!
Back To The Future (In A Tutu, Of Course)It's funny to think about the year 2013 – everything seems so "old" now! We've had time travel inventions in the movies for years (Back To The Future, anyone?), so I've taken that as a challenge, using my passion for ballet performances and my love of pink tutus to fund my adventures through history! It's my own little “Time Traveler's Guide To Tutus”, and I must admit, it's a truly fab adventure.
This week, I've landed right in the middle of Paris, the fashion capital of the world, and what a thrill to be here on October 22nd, 2013. It’s a Wednesday, and as we speak, they're showcasing some breathtaking designs by Chanel at their Métiers d'Art show. This is haute couture, my lovelies, pure glamour, and we're going to look at how that same inspiration translates beautifully into the world of ballet, particularly those iconic tutu shapes!
Fashionable Fashion – A Peek Into the PastSpeaking of iconic, remember when everyone was obsessed with the colour teal? It's funny looking back – it's been a long time since teal ruled the fashion scene, don't you think? I'm finding it really interesting to see these “retro” trends – we all get nostalgic for different eras in fashion history, don't we?
2013 is certainly a year when I'm getting lots of style inspiration. Let me tell you, the fashion trends back then were SO different. We've got the "lumbersexual" with their rugged look, and those trendy ombre hairstyles with colourful dip dyes that look a little bit too dramatic for my delicate ballerina aesthetic, I must admit! It's quite refreshing, looking back at these "trends" from a new perspective, isn’t it?
But when it comes to dancewear, the trends in 2013 aren't too far removed from what we see today, thankfully. There's that romantic, classic elegance – soft tulle and delicate fabric – a beautiful ballet vision that always keeps the dancer front and centre.
Ballet’s Glamorous Past2013 is such a lovely time to be here in Paris. It’s right in the middle of the vibrant, contemporary ballet season. I had the pleasure of watching the Opéra de Paris, and believe me, they were absolutely captivating!
We had dancers leaping, pirouetting, and swirling their way through each beautiful choreography – it was enough to inspire my very own graceful pirouette just by watching! There's nothing quite like the spectacle of a live performance!
Imagine it: the magnificent opera house, shimmering lights, a live orchestra creating that magical soundscape, and then there they are – the dancers! This is the reason I travel through time.
But Let's Talk About TutUs!Now, we all love tutus. It’s in our DNA! They're so expressive. It’s no surprise that designers love drawing inspiration from their elegant lines – a perfect marriage of artistry and grace. I particularly love those gorgeous layered tutus from the Romantic era (which was big in 2013). There's a certain softness, a lightness to them. It’s almost ethereal.
That ethereal vibe is perfect for my new tulle outfit. I bought it on a visit to a charming little vintage store on the Rue de Seine – oh my gosh, the details! A tiny silk rose on the waistline. Such perfection! I just can't wait to wear it to tonight's performance – it will look utterly splendid!
Ballet’s Beautiful TransformationI've had such a brilliant time travelling to Paris in 2013. Seeing all the beautiful tutu shapes and fashions. As I said earlier, the styles haven’t changed drastically – thank goodness! But when I look at this era, I also notice something unique about tutus: they've become more than just dancewear. Tutus have transcended the dance studio and stepped onto the fashion stage! We’ve seen them in runway shows, music videos – even as inspiration for street-style fashion.
This truly illustrates the beauty and versatility of a tutu! We really do live in a tutu-loving world, wouldn’t you agree?
And, on that thought, my dears, I must be going! A fabulous dress fitting awaits – yes, the designers are tailoring a new tutu ensemble just for me! Don’t forget, follow my #TutuTuesday journey by subscribing to www.pink-tutu.com! I'm excited to share the very latest on my blog and show you my journey across the eras! Don’t forget, ladies: A tutu is a state of mind – not just a piece of clothing! Now, excuse me, I have to go find that vintage tiara. You know how important it is to have a beautiful finishing touch to a perfect tutu outfit. Happy tutuing, my lovelies!
Love and twirls, Emma
