#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! - Ballet Tutu History (Post #9511)

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite tutu-loving, time-traveling ballerina! Today is Tuesday, so you know what that means - it's time for another installment of our #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History adventure!

Today's Date: 8th April, 2014. Can you believe it? We're still in the 21st Century! I mean, who knew the tutu would last this long? It seems everyone's in love with these twirling wonders, and so am I. And today, we're going to take a peek at the world of ballet tutus as they were back in 2014.

Flashback to 2014...

Back in the olden days of 2014, the tutu was just as magnificent as ever! This year, the Royal Opera House in London was ablaze with tutu magic - the breathtaking "Swan Lake" was on stage. It's a timeless classic, isn't it? Every time I watch it, I'm whisked away on a tide of tulle and emotions. Those graceful swan movements, the heartbreaking tale, the exquisite tutus... Oh, what a show!

Tutues for All Tastes

I must say, though, I loved the variety in ballet tutus back then. Remember those "Strictly Come Dancing" outfits with all the layers and flounces? Well, those were all the rage in ballet, too! We saw plenty of lavish and dramatic tutus, fit for a ballerina princess! The fluffy tulle layers, the intricate embellishments, it all just made me swoon.

But 2014 also saw a bolder side to the tutu. Many choreographers embraced a more minimalist look, showing off graceful lines and elegant movement in shorter, sleek tutus. Think "La Sylphide" or the contemporary works of William Forsythe. Such a contrast, but just as magical!

Shopping Spree in the City

My most recent stop on this trip was a ballet supply shop in London, brimming with every kind of tutu imaginable! I absolutely adored those Victorian tutus, so delicate and layered with dreamy flounces and ribbons. They reminded me of the graceful silhouettes of ballet back then. Then there were the classic romantic tutu designs - simple and chic, like an elegant princess stepping out of a fairytale! I've already picked out a few of these treasures for my own collection - you just can't have enough tutus!

The Power of Pink

Of course, my true love remains pink tutus. The colour was everywhere in 2014, and even the tutu wasn't exempt! You know, there's something so wonderfully whimsical and charming about a pink tutu. It adds a touch of magic and feminine delight to any performance, and frankly, to any day! Pink, my dears, is the colour of love, happiness, and dreams!

Fashion Inspiration on the Streets

Speaking of fashion, I also couldn't resist a trip to the streets of London to see how ordinary folk were wearing the tutu look in 2014! I'm not exaggerating when I say, the streets were overflowing with tulle! I saw women rocking it as skirts over leggings, a chic way to add a touch of dance to their daily wardrobe. There were even some tutus styled with a more contemporary twist - paired with boots, bomber jackets, and grunge-inspired attire. Honestly, they were making a statement and I was absolutely loving it!

Ballet & Travel - A Dream Combination

Now, it's not just about the fashion! One of my favourite things about time travelling through ballet history is experiencing the atmosphere at these old performances. Back in 2014, the theatres were alive with the sounds of the orchestra, the hush before the curtain rose, and the applause that roared when the dancers took their final bows. And you can bet that I was always right in the heart of the action - travelling by train across England and Europe to see as many amazing ballets as possible.

The Pink Tutu Power

My dear readers, if you're reading this and you've been feeling a bit gloomy, just remember that pink is always the answer! A little tutu magic can brighten even the dullest of days, and I want everyone to experience this wonderful feeling. Whether it's on stage or in your own home, remember, everyone can wear a pink tutu. And trust me, you will feel wonderful!

So, let's all spread the pink tutu love. Let's twirl, let's laugh, and let's celebrate the amazing world of ballet, together. Until next week, my darlings, keep dancing, and don't forget to stay fabulous!

Love and tulle,

Emma
