#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post #9519

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another thrilling trip through history! Today's date is 3rd June, 2014, and I'm channeling my inner fashionista, looking back at the glorious history of the tutu!

Let's travel by train, shall we? It's like a magical carriage to a bygone era. As I step into this quaint railway station, I feel like I've gone back in time! So many different colours, fabrics, and styles – but always that sparkle. Let’s explore how the tutu evolved to become the ultimate symbol of dance, fashion, and just a touch of whimsy.

First off, I just have to tell you about the incredible Royal Opera House, in London! The gorgeous interior just oozes elegance and the buzz of excitement as I stroll into the foyer – you just know something fantastic is going to happen!

Today, they’re performing the Romeo & Juliet ballet - a timeless classic that will never get old. Imagine! Shakespeare's tragedy, translated into a dance spectacle full of grace, passion, and dramatic movement - just breathtaking! And oh my! Those stunning tutus - simply gorgeous.

Speaking of tutus, let's talk history! Back in the 1830s, the ballet world was undergoing a huge change. The ballet dancer Marie Taglioni literally kicked off a new era! Her iconic performance of "La Sylphide" with its billowing white skirts, shorter than before, transformed the ballet world. This wasn’t just about shorter hems, my darlings! It was a statement – a call for lightness, freedom, and effortless elegance!

These 'Romantic Tutus' became a staple, flowing and airy, highlighting the dancer's delicate grace.

And of course, with the arrival of the Romantic Tutu, the pink tutu also emerged!

It is the colour of all things divine! From delicate flower petals to the blush on a girl's cheek, pink exudes feminine grace and innocence, while radiating vibrant energy!

I'm thinking maybe this Tuesday I should give it a whirl! Oh, darling, you just have to wear a pink tutu!

This look was revolutionised again when, surprise, surprise, in the 1860s - Marius Petipa graced us with yet another new era of ballet design - The Classic Tutu. Think perfectly tiered, pastel coloured, with just a whisper of a bodice. I’m smitten by these ones! They offer a beautifully structured, almost architectural form to the body. And those delicate tiers! Imagine how you feel as you swish across the stage, dancing in a cloud of sheer beauty - just the purest grace, darlings!

And don’t we just love to wear pink, my darlings? There’s a magic to wearing this colour!

From then on, it has always been a battleground of artistry and innovation! We have had contemporary tutus with bold shapes and colours, layered tutus, which are just exquisite, and even tutus made with feather, or wait for it *silk ribbons!

Can you imagine?! Such an artistic whirlwind!

We have to remember, however, this is a living and breathing style! From stage to street, to fashion shows - these beautiful, amazing pieces of clothing continue to inspire, surprise and delight! It’s so fun! I could live in a world just full of tulle, don’t you think?

In this day and age, with more innovative designers, fabric creators, and of course, our brilliant, artistic ballet dancers, we're seeing incredible new creations, always pushing the boundaries of what a tutu can be.

We have tutus to suit any mood or style! From the elegant swan, the passionate firebird to the carefree sylph.

If you want to express confidence, freedom and femininity, why not dance your heart out in a pink tutu? Because let’s be real, darlings, the pink tutu - the quintessential piece of femininity! It can take you anywhere! It’s like the golden ticket to your personal ballet fantasy, where anything is possible!

For today, I will continue to cherish my memories of this breathtaking Romeo & Juliet performance! It really is magic and it never fails to fill my heart with such a blissful feeling of beauty, grace and wonder. You should really pop down to the Royal Opera House next time you’re in London, it’s simply divine! Don't forget to wear a pink tutu too and be sure to visit www.pink-tutu.com to read the latest #TutuTuesday blog post.

Until next Tuesday, my darlings, let your pink tutu fly high and let your heart dance!

Stay sparkly,

Emma
