Tutu Tuesday #9547: A Whirl Through History – 16th December 2014

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, here, ready to take you on a journey through the glittering, swirling history of the ballet tutu. Buckle up your pointe shoes, because we're heading back to December 16th, 2014, a day just as sparkling as a new pair of satin slippers.

Paris: Where Dreams Dance

Oh la la! I’m currently basking in the beauty of Paris, a city that's almost as intoxicating as a new tutu. This enchanting city practically pulsates with a love for ballet. Today's excitement has got me thinking about those romantic, timeless dances – the elegant leaps, the whispered music, and the tutus. Can you imagine swirling across a Parisian stage, feeling the applause of the audience wash over you? I bet it’s even more glorious than wearing a brand new, just-purchased, blush-pink, three-tiered tulle delight.

But I'm getting carried away with dreams. Let's get back to our tutu time-travel journey.

16th December 2014 – A Time for Magic

This date, 16th December 2014, was a perfect one to see some incredible shows!

The Opéra Garnier

Did I mention I was in Paris? You know how much I love to visit Paris' iconic Opéra Garnier, its history as fascinating as a ballet story itself. I saw a production of "La Bayadère," a spectacle full of vibrant colours and passionate performances, and, of course, a magnificent array of tutus. Just think about the graceful movements of the dancers in those glorious costumes; each twirl was like a little puff of Parisian magic.

Royal Opera House, London

And before arriving in Paris, I enjoyed a sensational show at London's Royal Opera House – "The Sleeping Beauty." Such artistry! Every twirl, every leap, every smile told a tale, a masterpiece captured in movement and music. The costumes, those opulent tutus with delicate layers, like whispers of tulle, were simply breathtaking! They transformed the stage into a dream-like world, one where ballerinas were the princesses of graceful motion.

The History of the Tutu – It All Starts with a "Pointe"

The history of the tutu is as captivating as any fairytale! It started with a dance revolution. Remember those lovely tight-fitting court dresses? Forget them! Imagine those beautiful dresses being simplified and redesigned for freedom of movement, for those leaps and turns that make our hearts soar.

And what about those tight, restrictive undergarments of the 17th century, hindering all that dancing grace? In the 19th century, dancers rebelled, and voila! The romantic ballet tutu, with its beautiful soft layers of tulle and airy volume, took the stage by storm, symbolizing liberation and grace.

Imagine it: tulle as light as a butterfly wing, whispering stories with each flutter, making those ballet movements look so light, so free! It’s not just clothing; it’s artistry!

Pink Tutu Perfection

Speaking of ballerina artistry, you know my motto – “A little pink can make you a dancing queen” – and, in that regard, what colour shines more vibrantly than a delicious shade of pink? A pink tutu is a canvas for magic and fun – and a reminder to celebrate your own unique beauty and let your inner ballerina shine.

And for you, dear readers, my fabulous #TutuTuesday challenge: Tell me, what's the ballet performance that most inspires your inner ballerina? Let me know your favourite tutus, those dances that transport you to another world. And, as always, remember – a little bit of pink goes a long way in turning everyday into a dance of joy!

Love,

Emma,
