Tutu Tuesday: Ballet Tutu History – Post #9549
Hiya lovelies! Welcome back to another edition of #TutuTuesday! This week, we’re going all out on a real blast from the past. My time machine just deposited me right in the middle of 30th December 2014. I’m practically shimmering in the atmosphere, it's such a wonderfully fashionable year for tutus! You won't believe the amazing outfits I’ve been spotting. It’s enough to make a girl wish she had a whole wardrobe full of feather boas, sparkling jewels and – of course – the most fabulous tutus!
The 2014 Tutu Trend
Right, let's talk about those amazing tutus! Forget your demure ballet classroom ones, 2014 is about tutus with personality. Think vibrant colours, lavish tulle, and all the glitter your heart desires. I spotted one beauty, a sunshine yellow number, billowing with enough layers to make even the most confident ballerina swoon. Another stunner I caught was a powder pink tulle confection with a shimmering silver sequin embellishment. Talk about eye-catching!
And who says a tutu has to be short? Some of these amazing dresses I saw had skirts that just kept going and going – perfect for twirling! The 2014 tutu look is all about channeling that ballerina magic, whether you're walking the streets, sipping afternoon tea or (of course) attending a stunning ballet performance!
My Tutu Travelogue
This time, my time machine landed me in the heart of Paris. Talk about a ballerina's paradise! Imagine, streets alive with bustling fashion, boutiques bursting with the most divine dresses, and the scent of croissants in the air – what a treat! I spent my day indulging in the most incredible pastry and – guess what – my time machine led me right into the opulent Palais Garnier. Yes, the actual Paris Opera! They're celebrating New Year’s Eve with an unforgettable performance. How utterly thrilling!
But let's be real, this whole Parisian experience is a little too posh for a Derbyshire girl like me. There's something about the warmth, the character and the friendly smiles of a good British village that fills my heart with joy. Give me a hot cuppa in my favourite café, a chat with the locals and the cosy atmosphere of a little town and I’m happy! And of course, a few tutus to try on while I’m at it!
Ballet Tutu History:
Speaking of those glorious tutus, did you know they have a fascinating history? While they are associated with ballet, the first ballet tutu wasn't actually created for the stage! It all started back in the 19th century, when dancers found that the long, flowing skirts of the day made dancing difficult. It was Marie Taglioni, a revolutionary ballet dancer, who paved the way. She embraced a shorter skirt which showed off her amazing skills, creating what we know today as the classical ballet tutu! Talk about a fashion game-changer!
Over time, tutus went through a serious evolution. They evolved in both form and fashion, showcasing all the extravagance and drama of the stage! I mean, those massive tutus in productions like Swan Lake? Pure artistry! They’re such a visual spectacle and they're definitely my favourite style.
The more I learn about the history of the tutu, the more fascinated I become! The designers and dancers involved in its evolution have truly left their mark on history. These fantastic women are still inspiring dancers around the world.
The Pink-Tutu Promise:
My little pink-tutu wearing heart swells with excitement every time I witness a performance. From the first graceful arabesque to the thrilling leaps and pirouettes, each show makes me want to take centre stage and twirl, twirl, twirl! I hope that by spreading the love for tutus and ballet, I can inspire you all to feel confident and radiant. After all, what's better than a bit of sparkle and twirling around in a fabulously pink tutu? Nothing, my friends, simply nothing!
Until next time, my gorgeous girlies. Be sure to check back next Tuesday for another instalment of #TutuTuesday – you don’t want to miss out!
Love & Sparkles,
Emma xx
