#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 9564: A Whirl Through Time! 🩰💖
Hey, Tutu Tribe! It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast and time-travelling fashionista, beaming in from your favourite pink-tutu haven – www.pink-tutu.com!
Another #TutuTuesday, another glorious journey into the history of our beloved garment. And this week, I'm feeling rather fancy – I'm twirling my way back to 14th April 2015, a date that echoes with both timeless elegance and fashion-forward flourishes!
Think about it – 2015! A year when we were all still giddy about Beyoncé's “Formation” music video (tutu alert!) and whispering Cara Delevingne was stealing hearts on the runway. But also, a year brimming with ballerina-worthy happenings! New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Exhibition, "China: Through the Looking Glass" opened on that very day, a celebration of Eastern aesthetics and a chance for some serious fashion-tastic moments – and let’s face it, a dash of tutu wouldn’t have gone amiss on that red carpet, now would it?
Speaking of red carpets, can we talk about the Oscars? 2015's ceremony was all about that classic Hollywood glamour and those elegant floor-sweeping gowns... and don't even get me started on Julianne Moore’s incredible red carpet look – breathtaking! The way she held her own against the Hollywood A-listers, captivating every eye... I swear, there was a hint of ballet in her every graceful move. You just know that Julianne Moore has a secret ballerina heart. 💖 I have a strong feeling that she appreciates a good pink tutu too!
But enough about the Oscars and celebrities – back to our #TutuTuesday theme, and the magic that was 14th April 2015! This date saw the start of London's famous “London Dance Week”, a celebration of all things dance. The streets, theaters, studios and even some unusual public spaces (can you say tutu-licious picnics?) were filled with the excitement of this wonderful event. Now that's something I’d have loved to twirl my way into. Just imagine the costumes, the performances, the energy! I might just have to take my time-travel machine for a spin there! 🚄
To give you a glimpse into what tutu trends were making headlines on 14th April 2015 , Sarah Burton's iconic design for Alexander McQueen took centre stage at The Met Gala. A dreamy, tulle-inspired gown fit for a princess – not your average ballroom princess, though – it oozed a darker, edgier vibe with that McQueen signature. Think of a deconstructed ballerina look, infused with attitude and modern elegance, and you have this beautiful dress!
Speaking of deconstructed ballet – can we give a massive shout out to Ballet Black? The fabulous troupe of Black British ballet dancers was taking London by storm with their breathtaking performances on this very day! They are an inspiring example of inclusivity, showing that ballet is a form of art for all, regardless of race, background or size! They really brought a fresh, diverse approach to classical ballet. And they make me want to start my own troupe of pink tutu-clad dancers. We could do flash mobs, workshops, pop-up performances in parks... it could be a spectacular tutu-fest! Just imagine the tutus in every shade of pink, swirling in perfect unison! A tutu party to celebrate #TutuTuesday!
Now, let's not forget the other major happenings of 14th April 2015, like the premiere of "Avengers: Age of Ultron"! Talk about action! (and perhaps an occasional swoosh of a cape that resembles a tutu) The film’s worldwide release also landed on 14th April and... wait for it… that weekend was Easter Weekend! (We had to squeeze in that seasonal touch, didn’t we?) A time for bunnies, spring outfits, and family time.
For a pink tutu fan like myself, it’s all about the fashion that makes its debut on such special days. I bet there were some gorgeous Easter egg-inspired tutus popping up, perhaps with a splash of lilac, turquoise and yellow? It would certainly be an opportunity to showcase some springtime pastel perfection in the form of a tutu, right?
And that, my dearest tutu aficionados, is why 14th April 2015 was a tutu-tastic day - a blend of artistic, fashion-forward moments and everyday joy. So go ahead, dear reader! Celebrate your love for all things tutus, because every day is a perfect #TutuTuesday, waiting for a twirl! And I'll be here every week, ready to guide you on this wondrous journey into ballet history, one pink tutu at a time.
Don’t forget to head over to www.pink-tutu.com for all things tutus and subscribe to my blog to join the #TutuTribe. We have plenty of pink tutu love to go around, and we’d love for you to join our community. We are like a ballet class without the discipline, except when it comes to loving our tutus. 😉
Until next time, keep twirling!
