Tutu Tuesday: #9605 - A Twirl Through Time!
Hello my gorgeous darlings!
It's me, Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, ready to take you on a whirl through the glorious history of ballet tutus! Today, we're venturing back to 26th January 2016, just imagine, almost eight years ago! So much has happened since then, the world has been in a bit of a spin, but one thing remains constant, the enchantment of the tutu.
Before I jump into our journey through time, let me share a little tidbit about my recent adventures. You see, darling, last week, I found myself waltzing through the streets of Vienna. Such a fabulous city, full of exquisite shops filled with exquisite gowns and hats! The shops there are just heavenly, a real treat for a ballet girl like me, with all those lovely frills and layers of silk. I even managed to catch a stunning performance of Swan Lake at the Vienna State Opera. Just magnificent!
Anyway, back to our little trip down memory lane! You know, when I travel to these different eras, itās so fascinating to see how the tutu has changed and adapted through the years. And trust me, the past isnāt always soā¦pretty. It's amazing how far we've come!
Let's step back into 2016. What a wonderful year it was. So much happening! Justin Timberlake released his hit single, "Can't Stop the Feeling" - perfect for twirling and shimmying!
Now, you lovely lot might be surprised to hear, the tutu wasnāt actually called a "tutu" back in 2016. Can you believe it?! It's one of those fashion mysteries. Some say it comes from the French word for ātulleā, which makes sense, given the tulle fabric used to create those magical skirts. Itās fascinating, isnāt it? And there were SO many tutus to choose from. I saw some glorious tutus in that year. Some long and graceful, some short and flirty! Every ballerina had their favourite style and length.
So, why was the tutu so popular in 2016? It was all about freedom of movement! Just imagine those amazing dancers gliding across the stage, so graceful and beautiful, and those tutus flowing behind them like waves of silk! And the amazing shapes they can make! Every movement is so intricate and precise! Itās almost like watching a story come alive through their movements and the enchanting fabric of the tutu.
I remember back then, tutus were seen in all sorts of settings - ballet performances, naturally! - but also theatre productions, musicals, fashion shows, and even on the street! Yes, those fearless trendsetters on the streets were rocking their own unique take on the tutu look. And remember the ballerina style was HUGE. I had my fair share of twirling around in a ballet-inspired dress. You wouldn't have caught me without my cute pink tutu on any Tuesday!
Now, we wouldn't want to just focus on fashion, darling! I believe the beauty of the tutu comes from its symbolism. It's not just about how it looks, but what it represents. For me, itās a symbol of grace, elegance, and freedom. The way it swishes and moves with the dancerās every stepā¦ it's pure magic!
Oh! And can I just mention a small personal quirk about my tutus, dear reader? You see, a few of my favourite tutus come with little sparkly wings attached to the back. They're so charming and absolutely make my inner fairy giddy with delight! I love seeing the sheer delight on little children's faces when they catch a glimpse of my shimmery wings! Pure magic, don't you think?
Oh, and did I tell you, 2016 was an exciting year for tutu fashion! Ballet-inspired clothing was popping up all over! You can bet your bottom dollar I made the most of those stylish shops.
This is where it all began for me. Back in 2016, when my love for ballet blossomed, my little tutu shop in my hometown of Derbyshire blossomed. Iād never dreamed of making a living out of it, but those ballet shoes led me down a whirlwind journey, a truly spectacular adventure, just like in those dazzling ballets!
I started sharing my love of tutus and all things ballet with the world through my website, "www.pink-tutu.com." It all started with this very #TutuTuesday blog. Oh my darling readers, without you, without your support, this blog would not exist! You inspire me to continue time-traveling and sharing my love of dance with the world!
So, remember, whether you're a dancer, a dreamer, or just someone who loves beautiful things, there's a tutu out there for you! So put on your favourite twirling attire, spread a little sparkle, and make sure to check back in next week for another magical trip down tutu history lane!
Love and sparkles,
Emma
