#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Ballet Tutu History - 2016-03-22 (Post #9613)
Hello my darlings! Emma here, back again with another dive into the glorious history of the ballet tutu! This week, we’re waltzing back to 2016-03-22, a date ripe with ballet goodness! It's been quite the whirlwind journey, hopping back and forth between centuries to bring you all these stories, but nothing beats the thrill of discovering the captivating story behind this iconic garment!
Now, I'm going to level with you, my lovelies. It wasn't easy packing for this particular time travel adventure. 2016, ah, such a year for trends! But of course, one true pink-loving, tutu-obsessed ballerina never shies away from a sartorial challenge! My trusty pink tutu, my must-have accessory, the one that gets me into every single ballet performance (who knew there would be a "no pink tutu" rule for traveling through time? Well, I don't.) is perfect for all those fashion-forward events in 2016.
This trip, I even had to get creative! After all, every true tutu lover knows that the "it" style changes every season.
Oh, but I digress! Back to our #TutuTuesday.
So, in 2016, ballet was in a truly thrilling state. All the big ballerinas were in peak form, stunning us all with their grace and talent. On March 22nd, we witnessed the culmination of hard work and artistry, the premiere of a breathtaking ballet in London, which we simply must discuss!
But first, let’s get some history! Who doesn't love a good backstory, right?
Remember the 19th century, when we were all swept away by romantic ballerinas with flowing, almost floor-length tutus? Ah, those were the days! * They gave us an ethereal dream, almost floating on the stage with all the graceful movement. *You know the ones!
The real tutu story, my dear friends, is one of innovation, boldness, and most importantly, beauty. In the late 1800s, it all changed, darling. The tutus, my darlings, they began to go up! The more movement in the ballet, the higher the skirt had to be.
This gave birth to the classic tutu as we know it - short, airy, and stunningly magnificent.
Oh, and can we talk about the fabrics? Just dreamy, I say. Lace, tulle, silk...every single one made for those eye-catching pirouettes and gravity-defying leaps!
Now back to that balletic masterpiece that launched on 22nd March in London, 2016. I was transported to the grand Royal Opera House, just in time to see this modern ballet's debut. My heart skipped a beat!
I won’t spoil the whole story, but imagine an unforgettable show. The story and choreography flowed effortlessly, with exquisite detail. The costumes (and my eyes practically popped out!), my darlings, were an artistic dream! The ballet's main protagonist wore the most amazing, whimsical tutu. And get this, it was PINK! (Could it be a message, a secret wish of mine? Of course, only my magic tutu knows).
That’s what made 2016 so thrilling! Modern ballets embracing the classic tutu style and creating unique stories. They gave a whole new meaning to that magical element.
I'd been travelling the world with my magic tutu. I had to get a taste of some fabulous shopping sprees in 2016 to catch up on all the latest in fashion! You wouldn't believe the incredible tutu collections in shops from Paris to New York, and even here in good old England!
Just thinking about those tutu boutiques still gives me chills ! From the vintage style, antique tutus to the dazzling new designer masterpieces, every store felt like a portal to a tutu-filled fairyland. There are those magical ones too. You know the ones! A whisper of white or powder-blue tulle with exquisitely detailed embroidery, every single stitch meticulously crafted to tell a story in its own. My goodness, just dreamy, don't you think? Swoon
You just have to love that a balletic staple can be reinvented again and again in modern times. It just shows that there will always be a place for those captivating swirls and dazzling movements on the stage.
Let me tell you something. Seeing those ballets in the 2016 London theater scene was an absolute thrill! The shows captivated everyone, not just dancers or ballet enthusiasts. Everyone embraced the grace and story that came to life right before our eyes.
We also saw a wave of "ballet-inspired fashion" sweep across the street fashion scene. And, you know me! My pink tutu loves street style! From bold pink-themed outfits to subtle hints of tulle inspiration on everything, you could find *ballet style everywhere. I had to grab myself a fabulous street fashion shoot right there on that street in front of Covent Garden Opera House. And trust me, it was totally Tutu-licious.!
You can find your #TutuTuesday inspirations everywhere, my darlings. And that’s why I adore this journey, to see that *love of the tutu spread far beyond the theatre! * I have such big dreams to share the beauty of the ballet tutu* and show the whole world why we should be celebrating its unique heritage! * We have to take our Tutu history into every single facet of our world* *so the Tutu movement *will be even stronger.
Don't forget, dear readers, #TutuTuesday is a time for inspiration. Why not grab that perfect pink tulle skirt from your wardrobe? Take a twirl in front of the mirror and picture yourself on that stage with every step, embracing every moment. Just like the ballerinas on those big London stages, let's take inspiration and dance our way into our own world of fashion, grace, and passion. Don't forget to post your tutu-ful photos using the #TutuTuesday hashtag!
Until next time my sweet loves, keep dancing! And, don't forget:
*You are a star. Sparkle brightly. And remember, wearing a pink tutu always helps to remind everyone that you've got style!
See you next Tuesday!
Love,
Emma.
