Tutu Tuesday: #9633 - A Whirl Through Ballet History! 🩰💕

Hello my darling tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma here, back again for another #TutuTuesday, bursting with pink tulle and all things ballet!

As always, I've travelled through time again this week to bring you a delightful dose of tutu history! Today's adventure has whisked me away to the 9th of August, 2016, a truly fabulous time to be a ballerina, I must say!

This date marks the opening night of The Royal Ballet's summer production of "Swan Lake" at the iconic Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Just imagining the opulent décor, the soaring music, and those graceful ballerinas in their breathtaking costumes, sends shivers of excitement down my spine! It's no wonder that "Swan Lake" remains one of the most beloved and celebrated ballets of all time - it's pure magic! ✨

And speaking of magic, the history of the tutu itself is an enchanting journey! Imagine, for a moment, ballerinas back in the 18th century, swathed in yards of heavy silk and brocade! How could they ever execute those glorious pirouettes and elegant leaps? They couldn't, of course!

It was only when Marie Taglioni, the celebrated prima ballerina, introduced the shorter, diaphanous, almost knee-length tutu, that we finally saw ballerinas soar with grace and ease. It was revolutionary, darling! Imagine, freeing those delicate limbs, making them dance with effortless fluidity - a truly iconic moment in ballet history.

Now, if we flash forward to 2016, we can see just how far we've come. The modern tutu has evolved to an art form of its own. From the classic Romantic tutu with its layers upon layers of tulle, to the innovative and minimalist contemporary designs, we see endless creativity and imagination, reflecting the evolving art of ballet.

Speaking of imagination, one of the most wonderful things about the tutu is how it empowers you. When you slip on a tutu, you transform, you become someone different, someone bold, graceful and imaginative. It's a piece of costume, yes, but it's also a statement, an attitude, a way to express your creativity and inner ballerina!

Don't get me wrong, darling, a tutu isn't just for ballet dancers. It's for everyone who wants to express themselves, to embrace a touch of whimsy and magic in their lives. Think of all the amazing tutus out there! You can have a rainbow tutu, a sparkle tutu, a tutu that's so sparkly it literally takes your breath away! The possibilities are endless, and frankly, we must embrace them!

To help fuel your tutu dreams, I've taken a little detour on my journey through 2016 to indulge in some shopping! Now, this time period was just bursting with amazing tutus, all kinds! There were tutu-themed handbags, skirts, and even tutus for our furry friends! Honestly, how cute are tutus for dogs?!

I found this little gem at the Liberty London store – a luxurious pink silk tutu with exquisite embroidery - absolutely divine! It's perfect for a formal event, darling, and will certainly make a grand statement. You can find it amongst the designers at the Net-a-Porter website too. For everyday chic, I found the most darling Pepto-Bismol pink, frilly tutu skirt from a little boutique in Covent Garden. Just the right balance of whimsy and fashion-forward.

Of course, darling, no trip back in time is complete without experiencing the dazzling atmosphere of the theater. In 2016, there was such a beautiful, creative wave of theatrical experiences, ranging from traditional ballet to innovative contemporary performances. I simply couldn’t resist taking in a West End performance of "Matilda" and "The Book of Mormon" and enjoying some ballet street entertainment on the street as well, it was so exciting! The energy and joy are electrifying, truly infectious!

And what could be a more whimsical mode of transport than travelling by train, darling? Nothing, I assure you! This 9th of August in 2016, the train journey took me right from Derbyshire, where I was enjoying a classic afternoon tea, to London, and that vibrant city was just brimming with ballet, fashion and glamour! It was absolutely captivating!

Now, before I rush off to another fabulous adventure in time, I must share with you my weekly Tutu Challenge! This week, I encourage you to incorporate a touch of pink into your everyday wardrobe. It could be a pink scarf, a pink lipstick, even a single pink flower! Let's fill the world with pink and spread the magic of ballet one outfit at a time!

Remember, darling, you don't need a stage to wear a tutu! The world is your stage, so get out there and embrace the tutu life! And remember, never forget to dance!

Until next Tuesday, stay sparkly and fabulous!

Lots of love, Emma xx
