#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post #9656!
Hiya lovelies! 🩰✨ It's Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time-traveling guide to the wonderful world of ballet! This week, I've whisked us back to 17th January 2017 - a date brimming with fashion, frivolity, and a healthy dose of tutu-tastic history!
Right now, I'm in the bustling heart of New York City, and oh boy, is it a fashion frenzy! It’s electric. I mean, there are these amazing boutiques all around and a vibe of exciting creativity just pouring off the streets, which gets my tutu-loving heart fluttering! Speaking of hearts, mine is bursting with love for this stunning pink and lilac floral dress that’s whispering “buy me!” from a window on Fifth Avenue - I just can’t resist its playful charm!
Oh, but the tutu history, you ask? Well, settle in darlings, this story's a bit of a rollercoaster!
We’re in the midst of a golden age for the tutu. It's been through many transformations – remember those bell-shaped wonders from the early days? And don’t even get me started on the fluffy, multi-layered numbers that swept the ballet world in the late 1800s! Those were truly an epoch in their own right!
Fast-forward to 2017 and the tutu is still making its mark! Today's tutus come in every shape and size imaginable, from sleek and modern to gloriously dramatic and oversized, and all shades of pink, of course. And the way they swirl and twirl on stage, it's simply divine!
Remember my dear readers, wearing pink tutus is not about being a ballerina. It's about celebrating your unique style, expressing yourself freely, and feeling confident. Because let’s face it, when you've got a gorgeous pink tutu swirling around you, nothing feels impossible!
But enough about my sartorial obsession! (Sorry, darling! It’s practically in my DNA!) Let's talk about this glorious day. On this 17th of January, 2017 the ballet world is buzzing! In London, the Royal Ballet is captivating audiences with "The Nutcracker". A classic, of course, and a perfect example of the timeless appeal of ballet. I’m practically itching to head there and twirl with the best of them. Can’t resist those beautifully crafted, hand-painted scenery and elaborate costumes, darling! I hear they have a wonderful ballerina with the most dazzling tutu - must be something spectacular.
Across the Atlantic in New York City, American Ballet Theatre is mesmerising everyone with their rendition of “Swan Lake”. This is a story steeped in tutus – that elegant and majestic white swan tutu just captures my heart every time! Can’t you just imagine yourself gliding across the stage in a beautiful white tutu? Grace, elegance and beauty - I am all for it, every time!
And speaking of Swan Lake - it's a truly iconic performance, the epitome of “swan speak" - elegant, flowing lines and movements that tell a captivating tale! It truly demonstrates the artistry that we all love so much about ballet, with a big shout out to those dreamy and stunning tutus!
But the tutu is more than just a stage outfit!
Think about the sheer creativity and artistry involved! Those delicate fabrics, the intricate stitching, the magnificent shapes - they're works of art! Ballet is so wonderfully creative - not just about dancing, but about using visual beauty in a way that transcends words.
My favourite part, darling, is how the tutu empowers dancers! It gives them wings - it lifts them up and gives them this gorgeous feeling of lightness, helping them express themselves through dance! Just think of all the emotions it conveys – joy, sorrow, strength, even a hint of mischief, just by how the dancer interacts with the tutu. That is true magic.
As for me, I'll be on the train this week, headed straight for another enchanting ballet show, wearing my absolute favourite pink tutu, of course! My life is pretty much a ballet, I guess. And the thing I love most is the adventure, every day! Because when you love what you do, darling, every moment becomes a ballet!
I love you all dearly and will see you next Tuesday with another magical dose of tutu history! Until then, keep on twirling and embrace that lovely inner ballerina within! 💖
Love, Emma xx www.pink-tutu.com
