#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post #9695
Hello my darlings! Emma here, back with another delightful journey through the history of tutus! Itās a #TutuTuesday, so naturally, weāre embracing the sheer, twirly joy that is the tutu!
Iām currently popping into a Paris cafe with the most decadent macarons ā donāt you just love French patisseries? ā all ready to write about a most intriguing era in tutu history: 17th October, 2017. Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, thatās just a couple of years ago!" But trust me, when it comes to tutus, even a small hop back in time can be a fascinating adventure.
It seems like the whole worldās obsessed with ballet these days, doesn't it? Everyone from celebrities to street dancers is putting on pointe shoes and getting their pirouette on! Back in 2017, things were pretty hot for ballet too! That's why I was lucky enough to snag tickets for the Royal Opera House's āSleeping Beautyā performance. Oh, it was a sight to behold! The costumes ā and of course the grand tutus ā were a kaleidoscope of colour, each shimmering with jewels and feathers, just divine. I particularly adored the white and gold tutu of the Sugar Plum Fairy ā such elegance and a true fairytale princess look.
Speaking of fairytale princesses, how about a bit of fun trivia? You wouldnāt believe it, but thereās this trend called āballerina coreā ā basically all about pink tutus, leotards, and all that sweet little ballet aesthetic! You'll see it in clothing, accessories, even in those cute little nail designs, everywhere! And letās face it, who doesn't adore a dash of girly pink with a sprinkling of twirling delight?
Now, back to our historical timeline! In 2017, the ballet world was buzzing with excitement over "The Nutcracker". It's practically a ballet Christmas tradition, isnāt it? In fact, back in 2017, the Royal Ballet even held an open call for young dancers to be featured as āthe snow childrenā ā so incredibly sweet. Imagine!
While I was exploring the Parisian boutiques ā the shops here are simply heavenly! - I stumbled upon some real vintage gems: 19th century āromantic eraā tutus. Now, these weren't quite the billowing beauties we know and love. They were a bit more fitted and graceful ā almost like a dancing Grecian goddess. Just picture long, fluid lines in soft pastels. Absolutely captivating!
On the fashion front, ballerinas weren't the only ones going crazy for tutus in 2017. "Pretty Little Liars" had an iconic moment featuring a sparkly pink tutu, and trust me, the Internet went wild! Everyone was saying, "How can I rock that look?!ā
Remember that "Pink Tutu Challengeā I told you about last week? It seems itās still going strong in 2017! Every Monday, women all around the world, in every city imaginable, are posting pictures of themselves wearing pink tutus. Isn't that lovely? It's a beautiful celebration of empowerment and creativity, and a true tribute to our dear Tutu-land.
You know, as a Derbyshire girl, it was extra exciting to discover how big the ballet world is! Darcey Bussell, a beautiful dancer from Derby, was even on Strictly Come Dancing that year, showing off some serious tutu-tastic moves! And to think that my favourite dancer was inspiring a whole nation. How lovely!
Speaking of travel, it's time for me to pack up my bags and hop aboard the Orient Express to my next exciting ballet escapade. Don't you just love those plush seats and the aroma of fresh pastries? Until next Tuesday, darlings, keep twirling and embrace your inner ballerina!
Stay pink, and remember: Tutus are a form of art that belongs to everyone.
Lots of love and ballet kisses,
Emma
